ps.
I have no clue if that matter at all, but it could be exatly that, in hes case.
Yeah. Nothing will get them to download until I quit Steam and restart it.
Also to reply to others who commented, I only have 1 accountt and I don't want to turn off the updates, I just want them to work right. Sometimes it's a big (real) update, not just one of the small ones.
I tried it. I will see if it works for me as well. Thanks!
Didn't work. After clearing the cache Steam restarted and I still had a game not updating just like before. I appreciate the suggestion, though.
No I haven't. But of I restart Steam the games always update. I may try that next time it happens, though, just to see if there is something to it. Thanks for the suggestion.
edit: just tried this now and the game validated fine and then showed up as completed for any updates. Not sure if it updated when it validated or if it just didn't need an update in the first place. I'll keep a closer eye on it next time, but that may be the issue.
edit2: looks like the game I validated the files of still needed an update after restarting Steam, so that's not the issue.
Next you can try clearing your download cache under steam settings. That often fixes stuck or wonky download issues galore.
If things still perists, there's a couple of other things you can try, and I'll explain them then.
I never use sleep mode, and I have cleared cache before. What else do you suggest trying?
If those aren't working still, then there is one major fix all you can try. Go to your steam install folder and delete everything except steam.exe and steamapps folder (where your games live). Then run that steam.exe and it will reacquire all the needed files.
If that doesn't fix it then it's possible you're simply running out of drive space.
It's quite common for people to misunderstand how Steam works. You should NEVER go above 90% usage on your install drive, and when you donwload a game, you must allow up to THREE TIMES the total file size for it to unpack and decrypt.
In other words, if you have say a 1TB drive and you've used 850GB, you've got another 50GB left to play with. But if you want to download a 50GB game, you won't have enough space, because you'd need to allow up to 150GB which runs you up to 100%.
So make sure you have plenty of space, and if you're using Windows pre-10 you have defragged recently.
Long shot, but you could try going to your steam settings, sleecting downloads, and adding another folder to your list of chosen places to download to. Then remove the original one, and add it back.
See if that fixes anything.
