Fun fact you can get banned for rickrolling
Just saying the rule on forum is very complicated
For more info about spamming rickroll etc

Using the report function makes steam a better place....

It's not that complicated
Obviosuly spaming is forbidden. Posting Rick Astleys infamous song is never constructive or adds up to any discussion unless the question is something like "What is rickrolling?".

So anytime you "rickroll" someone you are infact trolling / spaming which as mentioned earlier is forbidden

Not complicated at all when this specific case is already laid out in the rules.
General Rules
Do not do any of the following:

Post spam (i.e. +1, 10char, rickrolls) or Re-post Closed, Modified, Deleted Content
There's almost 20 million logged Steam users right now. Things could get really cluttered if spam posts were allowed in the forum, render the place unusable for whoever wants to have proper dicussions.

What is rickrolling?

I don't think they'll immediately resort to banning, but they have no choice but to threaten a ban and will ban you relatively quickly if you keep doing it, because otherwise you get a circus instead of a forum, with lots of scrolling through posts with old content that people have been seeing for 20 years, which isn't amusing anyone but the poster to be honest.

At no point does a Rickroll ever have contextual meaning in a discussion, ergo, spam.

Rickrolling is the practise of luring someone into watching the infamous music video of "Never gonna give you up" by Rick Astley.

Example given...
User 1: "Can anyone help me out with configuring my audio interface?"
User 2: "Maybe this guide will help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ"

User 1 will then most likely click the link and will hear this song which somehow became viral and therefore a meme. The term "rickrolling" probably is the combination of "rolling someone" plus the name of the singer.

It is also when people say a link goes to one thing, and it actually goes to something else.

It doesn't have to be a Rick Astley video, to be a Rickroll. Rick Astley's career and what people thought he looked like vs how he actually looked, is what lead to the term "Rickrolling."

That's new to me. Thanks

Why yes, spam or otherwise deceptive linking is indeed against the rules, as pointed out by Tito.

It adds nothing to the discussion anyway, so, I'm not sure why you're surprised. Rules don't seem "complicated" especially if you read them. :tank:

Am I the only person who actually likes that song?

That song peaked at pretty much every chart when it got released, i don't think people hates that song specifically. it's just that sore feeling of getting baited making people salty.

Yeah, good point. I usually just laugh when I get rolled, though it's been some time since it happened.

I do like the reference being made here. Still waiting for Season 2.
