"Clown" profile award?
I just got an email that my profile received a clown award. While I am glad that I will receive 200 tokens to spend on other awards, it can be seen as offensive, and it is publicly displayed as a badge on my profile. How do I hide it?

I got one aswell a few days ago. I agree that it's offensive. Not to the point that the anger and sadness will flow into your mind everytime you look at your profile of course, but it's just a fact that no one would give you one because they think you are "funny like a clown" but more like because they think you are "acting like a clown"

Luckily you are able to hide it.

It is really just one of those things that are only offensive, if you want it to be offensive.

People will try to make anything offensive, be it really doesn't work like that, it is those who recive it that make it offensive or not.

Agreed. That's why i'm glad you are able to hide it if you feel that way.

I personally feel that recieving one can not be seen as a positive thing, especially when done by a random person. But everyone is free to have their own views and opinions on it of course.

I don't want it removed or anything like that, not a fan of cancel culture. But i'm happy that there is a feature to be able to show or hide that you are a considered a "clown" :D

What is offensive about the jester?
I've noticed some give that award to those who defend DRMed video games and/or correct disinformation regarding them.

Seems to stem from using the clown emoji to refer to other people in an argument as "fools".
But in this case, the supposed "fools" are receiving points they can spend on emoticons. :rghost:

You can hide it under Profile > Edit Profile > General kenobi > Bottom of page > Hide community awards.

Welcome to the club. :erune:

thanks Irene :cjstar:
This is the best feature Steam has ever added, they ought to remove hiding the rewards. I love this system.

And that is the problem. If you and other view it as positive, it removed the negative view, meaning that people won't post it as they are not invoking the feeling they want to.

It is a far simply matter to change your view, then to keep feeling it in a negative way.

Clowns are funny, entertaining people who bring positivity to other's lives. That means don't take offence, but accept it as a compliment.

It's clearly not that simple. The swastika used to be a Buddhist symbol before the nazis started using it, but good luck convincing anyone today that it has any different meaning. The majority opinion always rules and right now, the majority says the clown is used as an insult.

Proof? How do you know the majority see it as that? The ones I talk to all say they do not see it that way, therefor it is not, so we have countering views, though I don't assume mine represents the majority.

And yes, it is that easy/simple. This isn't a swastika used for brutality in history, this is a clown where the meaning is still rooted in happiness and enjoyment.

You are free to view it as bad, but that is simply your opinion on the matter.

I have never met anyone associating clowns with happines and joy. They are freaking creepy. Even more so to children. And the 2016 clown spree or Stephen King's It certainly did nothing to help it.
Jokers and jesters, yeah. But ♥♥♥♥ clowns.
homey dont play that....

Because every thread I see about the clown is people saying it's being used as an insult. People who defend Denuvo in certain game used to be insulted saying they were shills, or other things, but now their posts get marked with clowns. People who make unpopular posts in specific games get marked with clowns. Before we got the ability to hide awards, people who didn't like the clown were spammed with it by trolls. So I see plenty of examples every day where it's used as an insult.

I also never said this was the new swastika. I simply showed an example about how people determine the meaning of something.
