Anyone else feel Steam Achievements pointless when you can just use SAM?
I used to love Achievement hunting on my Playstation and Xbox back in the day.

I have tried doing the Achievements on Steam, but it feels so fruitless when anyone can just load up SAM and auto-activate every achievement available. It doesn't drive home the sense of accomplishment or whatever.

I always liked comparing my Trophies/Achievements with friends thru the Social Aspect of the Consoles. they show this person know this title etc. But Steam you sit there and wonder if this person actually got 100% or just used SAM. Silly to think Trophies/Achievements can be used a Flex, but they sort of can in some instances.

Maybe I am over-thinking it? I know Achievements are basically pointless (except for on Xbox for the Points system) unless some kind of reward is available and verified thru whatever.

Uplay handles this pretty well I admit. You do some stuff in-game, get the trophie, get some points, use those points on future Uplay games or the one currently.

I guess Steam Points are the equivalent but you could never use that because SAM.

I just kind of wish there was some Breadth to use the Steam Achievements.

It would be nice if Steam cared about achievements but it's gone on for so long that I doubt it will ever happen.

And perhaps they could disable certain Multiplayer achievements of games that are so old that no one plays online anymore. That way you can't even get 100%.

It would indeed be nice if Steam had it's own Uplay version of a reward. Perhaps a Trading card or a rare chance to get a emote from certain achievements.

there are also achievement tools for ps and xbox btw. they are equally pointless.

No—I can still enjoy and appreciate the gameplay those achievements represent, to me, without any concern whatsoever that someone else has different intentions or feelings about theirs. :lifetree::astrologaster::lh_space:

Personally i find all achievements to be pointless. I play for fun, not to have a digital box give me an achievement because I died 500 times or killed a mouse 10,000 times.

i get accused of faking my Tropico achievements all of the time. It's the only time anyone ever comments on any of them.

It's better to have your own goals. For me it makes it more fun.
I don't care for the achievements in the game but sometimes I feel like I should complete one which is one I can do because I'm in the area of the game, etc and can spend some time on them. But that doesn't happen that often.

What I would want was better ideas for achievements. I believe "Paradox" has the best achievements for their games, no other developer has that kind of "love" toward them! :D

Same here, i used to be crazy about trophies some years on ago on Playstation. Got like 60 platinums and suddenly realized what a waste of time that was. Since then, never cared anymore.

The moment I found out about SAM I stopped caring.

If you aren't doing the achievements for your own enjoyment, why do them at all? Why does it matter what others do? Why does a reward matter?

If you feel your achievements are not worht something unless you have external validation, maybe the issue isnt with achievements

I dont mind if steam fix sam usage, but the option to reset achievments is what make steam stand out for me, in other platforms i can only play a game once or make a new account and purchase it again, the fun to be able to get the achievments again is a needed feature for me.... Also some games bug achievments like binding of isaaac rebirth when release the dlc repentance made people unlock a achievment called 1001% as a bug not suposed to unlock only way we could fix is to use sam to lock it again and the unlock it legit, sam is a good tool, the hability to reset achievments to fix achievments that unlocked by mistake and the hability to get then again is what make the best for me.. I never used sam to unlock anything, i just fixed bugs and locked then so i could get again... Also only reason i could get the full experience of binding of isaaac whrn a new dlc release Is due to sam becasuse i can delete the sabe game and lock all achievmwnta to start from 0, on other platforma i would have to purchase the gamee again is much worse.

The only way to deal with achievements is taking them with philosophy: don't look at the mere number you have, don't look at the % of completion, don't look at users with high count of them, just go only for the ones you like more and feel meaningful.
Going for 100% most of the time is tedious, useless and ruins your game experience, and games devs most of the time don't understand this basic thing during the design of their games.

I only remember the achievements that i enjoyed getting, not the most tedious and long one.

Some people consider using SAM as cheating, but then the same people use save files, console commands, in game's glitches, guides, walkhtrough... where you draw the line? :2016roasted:

If they ever fix this, it would be a massive rework, not something you will see in a few years considering the times that Valve takes in doing his things.

Some games unlock achievment by mistake due to bug..... Only eay to fix is sam, sam. Is a tool, can you use sam for cheating of course but u can use it to fix the bug and inlock It legit.

You are over thinking it and are paranoid over friends using SAM. Literally nobody cares about your achievements. They're an entirely personal goal, you get them for yourself. They ARE pointless, and should stay that way.
