RDR2 Won!
Honestly, its a masterpiece with story telling and frankly I'm happy it won those two awards.

Doesn't matter.

Hades was released in December 2018.
Red Dead Redemption was released for PC in November 2019. One year after the console version.

Wouldn't you of all people agree that it's plain stupid to award titles that released like two years earlier for "the most important video game award of all time"? Just because they got dropped on a new storefront?

It has to go by Steam Release date. That's how Halo got nominated years after release. Any other system is open to argument.

I've argued that the awards year should run 1st November - 31st October so any game released on Steam in November or December goes into next year's awards.

Halo is fine because it's a remastered version.
RDR 2 and Hades are the exact same games that released on PC a year earlier. Just on a different store front.
Hardly material for the GOTY of the "most important PC gaming award".
Especially after they bared a lot of EA games from being nominated for this exact reason.

Why would you vote something like Hades over Red Dead Redemption 2? It seems beyond ridiculous.
Replayability/gameplay > story
+ I hate cowboys
+ GTA V was such a boring game, I won't even touch rdr2 with a 10 foot-long pole

Disagree. Valve should take the Olympian high ground and pretend that Steam release date is only release date that counts for most games.

Otherwise there's the problem of a top game that's been headhunted by another store being ineligible for the awards when it appears on Steam. Bearing in mind the number of games shortlisted for awards that were released elsewhere before being released on Steam that will annoy publishers and the games' fans.

Remember it's the STEAM GOTY.

Hades had a lot of content upgrades in it's Early Access phase til it got to version 1.0 in September. It's certainly not the exact same game it was when it released on the EGS 2 years ago.

Had they barred Hades from the awards, they would have had to have barred all Early Access games from the awards anyway.

That would just make them a contender for the Labour of Love award IMO.

I understand that's it's the Steam awards.
But giving GOTY to a game that didn't released this year looks wrong to me. You certainly would look at me funny if I'd say my GOTY 2020 is Infamous: Second Son (2014).

Voting for a cdpr game for any award? Cringe.

I heared that R* almost abandoned RDR2 Online already. There are a lot of games in those lists I don't understand how they got there.

It should've been either DOOM Eternal or Hades that won. RDR2 is one of those story focused "games"

Because - and I know this might come as a shock - but people have their own (whisper) opinions.

I know shocker.
It may look wrong to you Cinedine but it's the way it has to be. In particular Early Access Games shouldn't be eligible for awards because they are not "complete". Therefore if we date from a game coming out of Early Access than that, as in the case of Ark, may occur several years after the game first appeared on site.

Sure.
What is the difference between an Early Access game and Live Service game and a game with continous support again?

He probably thinks that any game that hasnt got ultra-realistic graphics in a 3rd person/1st person format isnt worthy of being good, then get butthurt when games like hades do get awards

The difference is what it says in the rules.

That's all.

Now one can agree with it or disagree with it, but a line has to be drawn somewhere.
