And it depends on what the perspective is, it actually does make sense for a large publisher to have their own store/launcher. There they keep 100% of the revenue.
But I don't understand, why can I get Assassin's Creed Odyssey on steam ? Why stop ? That would be cool to continue to buy Ubisoft product on steam.
I don't speak only about watch dogs but I speak too about assassin's creed valhala..
I don't like the ubisoft launcher
I see it as a ploy from Ubisoft to generate more sales in their own store.
In the end, Ubisoft is a business and they look at ways to maximise their earnings.
Honestly, it's irrelevant what we players think would be cool or like. Generally speaking, most gamers simply go where the games are and don't care about multiple launchers and such.
When Electronic Arts took Battlefield 3 to Origin they didn't remove formerly sold items on the store. They just released the new ones on their own platform.
You'll have to balance what is worse to you. Using the Ubisoft launcher or not playing the game.
Ubisoft left Steam and from now on new games are only available on Uplay, Epic and consoles.
Older Ubisoft games remain on Steam and can be purchased because Ubisoft do not want to lose the revenue from Steam.
Finally Ubisoft made a smart move because people not wanting to use Epic bought the games on Uplay such as The Division 2 and increased the revenue on their own platform.
rumors for ubi leaving Steam were coming up in early 2019 with the division 2 being exclusive on epic and were just manifested mid 2019 by ubi.
everything that was released under ubi flag in 2019 and 2020 was due to legal obligations or additional content to existing content but they are essentially gone from Steam atm.
there is nothing Valve can or better ... will do about it. Valve does not throw around with money.
I don't buy games anywhere else but Steam anymore. I stopped caring some time ago. Sad that I won't be able to play Valhalla, but yea, it's just how it is. I don't care anymore. Not on Steam = not interested.
