I have no idea what you're talking about, but I'm intrigued. Is there anywhere where I can see a summary of what is this sale event game? It's only recently that I'm "in touch" with the Steam Community, Steam Market, Workshop, etc, so I've missed a bunch of stuff.

IT was an event from the summer sale of 2018 we got a little character and doing event stuff you got items to put on the character, in the end you keep him in a jar that can show in a showcase on the profile
Not sure if they ever return to fight a battle in any further event

The Saliens event was for the summer of 2 (or 3?) years ago. It was a little clicker minigame where you defended a base from alien attacks, and playing it regularly would unlock items related to the game.
The last major summer sale event was the Steam Grand Prix last year, where you had to pick a racing team and complete various tasks to bring them ahead in the race.
That event didn't go so well though, since the team that had the most members won every time, and there was also a bug(?) where users gained way more profile XP than ever before, making their profile levels skyrocket.
Since then, there haven't been any events of a similar scale. This summer introduced the points shop, and that was about it. Not sure if Valve will do any more of these types of events or not.
It wasn't so much a bug as it was Steam priced badge levels at 1/10th of what they should have been (100 points) and had no level cap. Subsequent events and the Points Store now sell badges at 1000 points for 100 XP with a level cap.
