What are advantages of Steam level?
I'm kinda new to steam. I bought 5 games and got some trading cards and sold all of them in the community market. Instead of that if I had collected them and crafted badge, I would have got 100xp for each game and steam level up 5 times. But is it worth it?
What are the advantages of higher levelers than lower levels? Are they any discounts or rewards for them?

The only advantage is for every 10 levels you have a better chance of getting a booster pack. For example, a level 80 will have a better chance of getting a booster pack than a level 12 but booster packs are only worth a few pennies each so who cares.

There is no advantage, but it's fun!

You unlock a profile showcase every 10 levels and get a badge for each set of cards you complete.

I also think you have a slightly higher chance of receiving a booster pack.

So it is just a showcase. I better sell cards in market for cashback for future purchases

Smart way to use Steam. That's what I do.

one thing besides the cosmetics you get from upgrading your steam profile is that the higher level you are the more friends you can add on the platform.
GRIMM Jul 28, 2020 @ 1:16am
You can actually also earn XP by buying games, and also the amount of time you've been a member on Steam.

there are also a few free badges you can craft, like the community ambassador, and ones that sometimes pop up during events.

Aside from showcases, which has already been mentioned, you also get an increase in the amount of friends you can add to your friends list.

And furthermore, and this may sting for some people, but there are some users who will refuse to add people with low levels on their account. This is mainly due to the massive amount of bots and scammers on Steam that have low levels.

It's basically to snazzy up your profile with widgets and add more friend slots if you hit the cap.

Showcases include:
Rarest Achievement Showcase
Game Collector
Item Showcase
Items Up For Trade
Badge Collector
Favorite Game
Screenshot Showcase
Custom Info Box
Favorite Group
Review Showcase
Workshop Showcase
Favorite Guide
My Guides
Achievement Showcase
Salien Stats (an old steam event)

Correct. The only useful purpose for it is to increase friend list cap by 5 for each level.

community ambassador is just a way to bribe you into giving your phone number to valve.
there is absolutely nothing I've seen in writing that restricts valve on how it uses the information you provide it.

in fact valve explicitely says if you give it personal data it can use that data more or less how it wants to try to sell you stuff, it can share your data with others, etc.

valve NEEDS
-email
-password
-system specifications
-country (definitely) and maybe state or district or province (or in case of Chicago the city due to it collecting e-taxes)

it doesn't need anything else. it WANTS the other info but valve wanting info doesn't provide a valid reason for you to give it.

community ambassadors badge is the 'I don't know how to keep my private data private' badge.

avoiding Csgo or Dota types of games is how one avoids scammers or bots.

You can create a steam group and name it as your extended friends list for free and add ppl that way.

The whole lvl thing is a marketing ploy to garner information from the user such as community ambassador that wants your phone number etc, waste of money and it makes the client appear to bloated and tacky

Effectively the way the system works allows Valve to legally print their own money.

However ...

If gaming on Steam is your primary social activity your profile page is effectively your public visage to the community. All the various additions available on the profile are generally available by activities incidental to gaming and don't need cash purchases. So people appreciate more tools and options to improve it.

But yeah, money spinner for Valve. Genius.

S.x.

First there's nothing in writing, the next there is and it says that they can use the info? Sounds contradictive ;)

Anyway, your argument makes 0 sense because you don't need do everything to get the badge. If you don't want to give your phone number then don't, you can still earn the badge.

wrong
if you go to your user name above, click it, click badges, and then look it will show "community ambassador" badge. in order to get that badge you DO need to give your phone number.

which part of this is hard for you to understand?
the information you willingly give valve can more or less be used however they want to use it without any restriction. as per the privacy agreement we all had to agree to in order to use steam.

but since maybe you didnt take the time to read it ... here are a few gems from the agreement.
