Also be aware that family share has a severe limitation: only one person can access a library at a time. So you playing CIV while she plays AoE isn't. (Unless one of you switches to offline mode.)
You can be logged in on another computer and the person can still use the games. You just can't be playing any of your games.

You can't be using your library. If you any game in your library is in use, she can not play any of the shared games.
You can play in off-line mode, but then you will not be able to play an online game such as ESO, while she playes AOE.
She will always have to be on-line in order to use the shared games.
I have purchased double, and at times tripple, copies for my family and myself to play together. I don't see it as a waste, nor do I take offense despite having spent a great deal on here already.
Valve has two sets of customers, developers and users. They need to balance the wants and desires of both. Family share is an option strait down the middle. A set-up that only benefits the user would push the developers away. The developer likely don't want games shared at all.
Sharing as it is, is losing everyone money - including those developers who need to pay rent.
Pony up the cash, she can buy games too.
I too am often disappointed when a company is transparent with rules and policies and things work as advertised but doesn't agree with my assumptions or arguments of convenience. And I am able to rationalize they should change policies to accommodate me because they make enough money... somehow that never yields the changes I imagine. So I typically assume the worst about the company and never entertain that my desires are shortsighted or uninformed.
It is almost as valve is in the money-making business. In fact, I should go to my local grocery store and demand and a free 2nd item for each item i purchase since my wife and i both shop there and i've already bought groceries.
