Alternatively, go to the store page to see categories if a game uses VAC or not.

Seriously. Steam UI needs that info too. What if game gets removed from store and player does not remember if game using VAC or not.

Well, exactly how hard is it to not use cheats on multiplayer games?

A VAC ban is a serious consequence and an entire account is affected. It has little impact on those with a few games but those who have grown a large library of games don't want their account VAC banned. There are 3rd party mods for some games that may get flagged, we don't know which ones, and this is very worrisome without knowing which games are VAC secured or not at a glance within the GUI. VAC bans are not given for simply cheating in multiplayer as you think there are numerous reasons that we don't know about. A VAC ban is scary and we should at least know which games use the system.

game developers can add and/or remove the vac system from their game at any time they wish. if you are not sure if a game uses VAC, try asking in that games forum.

VAC bans are only given out for 1 reason - Known cheats detected.

any program that tampers with protected game files is a cheat, pure and simple.

Yeah but some cheats I found were acceptable which makes it a grey area. Some hacks have been part of the gaming community for years and we have grown to use them. I am not talking about Multiplayer or Competitive game hacking, I am talking about mainly single player experience cheats. Even the very first PC games all had cheat codes and hacks. Even Age of Empires and the cheat code Pepperoni Pizza for example were part of the culture. But when it comes to competition it is unacceptable and rightly so. We don't know what the known cheat programs are but I am learning slowly that some Single player 3rd party programs are ok to use, mainly Single player RPG Inventory storage hacks etc.

Because single player doesn't affect any other player...

You're asking about VAC secured servers, which definitely implies you're wanting to cheat/use scripts in a multiplayer game.
Spartan Hoplite May 29, 2020 @ 1:50pm
You are implying not me. I want to know if time old hack programs can still be used in Steam for non-VAC games. TQ Vault for Titan Quest for example. But it's hard to know at a glance if the game is VAC secured or not.

looking up the Steam store page is not a glance?

takes 10 seconds to know if a game has VAC

and in general ...
~100-110 games on Steam have VAC.
~41400 have not

0.3%
a VAC enabled game is an absolute exception on Steam.

also .. why only VAC?
there are enough other anti-cheat programs that are NOT directly mentioned anywhere and they can result in a game ban, which drags the same issues along.

There are games that use VAC even during solo/"offline" play.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/221040/Resident_Evil_6__Biohazard_6/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/65800/Dungeon_Defenders/

Couple examples. Though DD may have had that patched out a long time ago, I forget.

Nice self contradiction right there.

I don't know, but i'm starting to question weather I should keep the Authenticator connected to my Account, or not... I haven't found any reason for it being there...

Other then the possibility that it might allow Valve to go & flag my Account anytime
I tamper with one of their Games... Outside of that, I haven't actually found any
reason to keep my Account Connected to it...

I also get the feeling that the Authenticator is a reason I keep having to throw
Codes at an Automated thing, every time I sign in, o_@

---------------------------------------

In my view? It seems to only benefit me more by getting rid of it...

It's suppose to be there to protect our Accounts from security threats,
but my entire time being on STEAM? The only security threat i've had
was this Privacy issue that Valve is issuing their customers...
