Should Steam Support/Assistants be asking for account codes to lift a ban
So basically I was minding my own business when my friend who I will call "C". C reported me on accident for duplicating items. I told him that it was fine but usually alot of scammers tell me i have duplicated items. C said that the "Steam Assistant (SA)" needed my username and code. I gave the username like an idiot and after awhile C gave me the "SA"'s Discord. I added him and he sent a code to my gmail to investigate my account to lift a ban thing or something, he also said i had a virus. as soon as i gave him the code my account was logged out and I reacted fast. I got my account back and then i lost it again so i had to do the process again, which i got my account fully back. I'm not sure if they can do this but i seriously don't trust it

That is a scammer who has control of your friend's account. Support would never use discord or contact you directly, only through support tickets.

you gave your info to a scammer, not to anyone from steam support. support doesnt contact you, support doesnt need to ask you to give them any codes. read the article about account security and protecting your account.

There's no "pending ban".
There's no "duplicated items".
No Valve's employee will assist you anywhere outside the Support itself.
This is a old scam.

totoro already answered it but a real moderator would never tell you to go to discord , also about duplicated items ,if that was possible on steam to duplicate items , then the process of duplicating would get you into trouble , not owning a duplicate

there are some items that theoretically are duplicated but they were created by steam support for people who got scammed

and another thing , if anyone ever tells you they reported you accidentally , just keep in mind that if you didnt do anything ,nothing will happen even if they did report you

its the same with the police , if someone calls the police on you for no reason , the police will just leave again, they wont arrest you if you didnt do anything , its just a scare tactic "i accidentally reported you , now go talk to this guy "

So you know about scammers, and you know about the duplicated items scam, and yet you still fell for it? I'm just a little gobsmacked.

Although I guess the only thing worse than being completely clueless is knowing just enough to think you're informed, but are actually more dangerous because what you do know gives you a false sense of security.

those that think they are too clever to fall for something are the 2nd most likely , right after people who believe " you won a free iphone , click here" ads

because if you think you are too clever , you might take risks because you think "ha , im going to mess with that scammer , gonna be fun after all im too smart" but then you click one too many confirmations or links and suddenly you get scammed even though you knew it was a scam

i really read a post like this before , the person knew it was a scam , wanted to play along , and ended up going one step too far and then got scammed or his account hacked

i know what scams are but i dont bother playing along , simply because theres always a risk , if someone has a csgo sccam site in the name and not really any other games , i dont even accept their friend requests

if someone has csgo gambling sites in their name i dont accept. or if i do i give them a ? and then if they dont reply in 10 seconds i say, CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE ENTERED THE BLOCK ZONE, PLEASE STAND BY

You need to report that profile, straight up. We can't really do that, because we have not got any proof or have not been affected. Only those affected should do this.

But do report it, because impersonating anyone official is a permaban offense as far as I know.

please dont link it , that would be name and shame , just report it for impersonating a steam admin , once a moderator / support takes a look at it ,they will deal with it , others cant really do much

He wants your account, in order to scam others and spam the forums.

Verification accounts - A user wants you to trade an item for "verification". The user will give a made-up excuse to convince you to do this, such as needing to make sure the item is not a duplicate or to ensure the item is not bugged. These users will then keep your item(s) and block you, getting away with the items.

Often, the threat of some type of ban will be included by the scammer or middleman, to make you more likely to comply with their attempts to scam you. That's one of the reasons they pretend to be "admins" or work for Valve or "moderators".

From that same page :

Valve employees will never ask you to trade your items to them; this includes users who claim to work for Steam Support.

Users claiming to be a Valve employee, accounts asking to verify your items, and users who send you a message which insist you need to trade your items to them for investigation or security reasons should immediately be reported for trade scams.
