Backstory:

So first I will start with my time on Ark. I have logged a total of 117 hours on the game and I have had tons of fun playing with one of my friends. About a year ago... (2017) we stopped playing Ark and decided to play CSGO. I deleted Ark to free up disk space.

In February of 2018 I reinstalled the game in hopes of continuing the play through as we stopped on top of the mountain in the red wood forest mining metal. I was able to move around for 30 seconds MAX and than i would crash. My friend did not reinstall the game and than I deleted it again and downloaded the forest.

About 5 or 6 days ago we both reinstalled Ark and began playing it again. Mysteriously the save that we had did not get uploaded to the cloud and we lost about 100 hours of progress :(. This was not a big deal because we loved to start on workshop maps without anything so we were slightly glad that we were restarting. We ended up putting another 17 hours into the game in the past 5-6 days but curiously around the fourth day when we got back up to the red wood forest mountain... I began to crash again...

The Problem:

My game would allow me to get in for a little under a minute and when i moved around I would receive huge amounts of stuttering. (going from 90-110 fps to 5 - 10) and than I would freeze up and have to go into task manager to close the game.

In Task manager it would say that my CPU would be at 40%, Memory at 90%, and Disk at 100%.

Solutions that I tried:

Launch Options: -nomansky and -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -d3d10 -sm4 -lowmemory -novsync

I also verified the integrity of the game cache about 10 times.

Nothing Worked.

My Solution:

Disclaimer:
I don't know if this will work for everybody, but at least it will help them get closer to finding a solution to their specific problem for this horribly optimized game that is stupidly priced at 60 dollars.

Launch Options: -nomansky -lowmemory -novsync

Now with these launch options you will still receive the problem, you have to incorporate all of the parts to the solution.

When you join, do not move alt+tab or hit the windows key, open up task manager, go into the details tab that is at the top, than find shooter game (It should have the Ark logo off to the left), right click on it, click on "Set Priority" than make it high.

Your game will lag a little for 3 seconds max and than you will no longer receive the crash and stuttering will be very little and only within the first 5 minutes of play.

In task manager this increased my CPU Usage would be increased by 30-40% (70-80% instead of 40%). My disk would go from 100% to 65% and my memory would go from 90% to 75%.(My GPU would always be at 100%)

To fully reduce the stuttering I changed my graphics from what is above to what is here.

Graphic Settings (After Fix):

Everything high and the rest was the same

My theory was that my computer was moving to virtual memory making the game slow down and crash/stutter.
I also believe that Epic Antialiasing is poor feature into the game and should be looked into being fixed by the devs.

Graphic differences: I only see a difference if I look really close at the edges of shadows.

Hope this can either help you fix your game or it will fix your game :).
