Do I need to buy the masterchief collection to play reach?
Or can I just buy it separate without needing it

Says you need the collection on the store page. It is considered DLC.

From the store page:
This content requires the base game Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Steam in order to play.

It's classified as DLC, so... yeah.

No, you do not. The collection is just a package containing the current Halo game and those planned for release on Steam over next year.

I know it is confusing and agree it is not worded too well on the store page.

Store page says you do.

Is that reportable for being misleading?

Purchased it alone for my son and he is playing it now, just fine.

"Halo: The Master Chief Collection" seems to actually be a launcher, where the other games will be added (if purchases) over time.

There are actually multiple stores pages for it, oddly enough.

Right. I added it through the collection page and the DLC page and both let me go without warnings.

Looks misleading.

Like I said, poorly worded. Several questions about it in the game hub as well.

On another note, moving this to the game's game hub.

They should have done it similar to Serious Sam Fusion 2017.
