Steam Database Hacked? - check your CC for FRAUD activity
I just saw 10 or more unauthorised charges from

Merchant Name: Steamgames.com4259522985
Merchant Location: 425-9522985, US

on my CC.

My guess is the database has been hacked.

I haven't purchased anything from Steam for over a year.

Gratefully I'm covered by my bank and not responsible for fraud charges.

So, in might be a good idea to check your CC for fraud activity.

Good luck.

3) That information was bought by someone
4) that information was used to make purchases on steam

Do you have children? a Girlfriend? a spouse? a best friend? Roommate? Anyone that uses your computer? Or has access to your real life wallet?

It's waaaay more likely that someone you know in real life used your credit card without permission than Steam's database got hacked.. particularly since there aren't a zillion people complaining about it.

I would not make such assumptions on a whim.

Highly unlikely the database was hacked and more likely that your card # was stolen and being used to buy steam giftcards or wallet funds.

Seems more likely your card details were leaked by you or someone you know than steam being brute forced

I'm giving you heads up right now, please read carefully, the whole post, not just parts, the whole thing, read it all.

If you claim your card has been used, did you see any added games, or etc added to your account? If not, then I would suggest contact Steam letting them know about the unauthorized usage, and proceed with the charge back.

^This, if you do a charge back, and someone you know used your card, their account will be locked down, and they get a email notification, and notification on the client, and complain about it, if so then you clearly know they're the ones that done it to you.

^This is also a high possibility, as it's likely this can happen as well if you're not careful. Scammers will steal other people details, that include their Credit cards as well, they buy things over the marketplace, or buy things to gift to people that paid them money for the games at a low price, or etc.. If someone got your card details I highly suggest get a new one, call up your credit card company ASAP do not wait any longer, have them deactivate your card, and have them mail you a new one.

If the Steam database had been hacked, there wouldn't be one thread about it, there would be about ten thousand an hour. You would do better to assume it is your card or your steam account that has been compromised and act accordingly.

If steamDB was hacked, Valve would be in panic as it is. It sounds more like OP's mistake, here.

this is very much not a database hack other than someone somehow acquiring your CC card info and I highly urge you to contact your bank ASAP
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

What 'database' is this then?

Steam had a CC leak in 2010 and even then they (allegedly) encrypted the CC details. So no, Steam is unlikely to be at fault here.

What even gave you the idea that the details come from Steam? Just because they were used to buy Steam stuff?

The charges were noted in my online banking as being from "Steam".

No one has access to my card, wallet, or PC.
I have RFID blocking in wallet.

Yes. I think that's probably what happened.
