In all honesty. None of the HL games were *that great* they were decent. Taken by itself that's all that can be said of the original HL Taken as the sum of its expacks and the game could be considered 'good' but not ground breaking.
HL2 was decent but a little too 'set-piece focused'. the expeacks just came across as being repetitive.
That chance is 0%. So, about the same.

It's Half-Life: Alyx
Salt to some no doubt but I'm looking forward to playing it and glad Valve is finally dropping one of their 3 VR titles they keep discussing.
VR will, without a doubt, play a big role in the future of entertainment.
Valve sees that future, I see it too, even when it might not be meant for me. I puke with every headset after a few minutes.
it certainly needs a "killer" title that will break doubts and set a defined standard of what VR can do at this day. maybe that is Alyx, maybe it isn't.
but HL3 or HL2EP3 is just a meme, stop pushing on it, won't happen.
Valve intends for it to be VR's "Killer-App". In other words, they want it to be the AAA Game people see and go "I'm buying a VR headset for that game" in order to increase adoption rates of the technology.
Before you say it though, it's not a ploy to get people to buy Valve Index Headsets, it'll most likely work with Windows Mixed Reality (The Cheapest Headsets), Oculus, HTC Vive Headsets, and of course, the Index. Valve doesn't do exclusivity on purpose.
I get the sentiment and yeah, this and the other 2 VR games Valve are working on will probably sell headsets but I don't really think there is any such thing as a "killer app" for VR as it's going to be something different for everyone.
If you're a sim pit gamer then odds are, you're already racing cars, flying planes or spaceships in VR (or are at least considering it). There is (personally speaking) absoultely nothing like flying a ship in VR in Elite: Dangerous. Hands down some of the most fun I've had gaming since 1983 (though it's much more than a game when you are in there) and the sentiment is shared by many others who play Elite. Same for sim pit racers.
If you swap up to the FPS players, most of them rave about Pavlov. The type of gamer who likes music games love Beat Saber....so on and so forth.
At the end of the day, VR is a tool to be used however the end user sees fit. It's not a gaming device anymore than your keyboard and mouse are gaming devices. They both are and are not.
I think when people realise that and look at what VR can offer them rather than focus on whatever big name game comes out (which yes, will absolutely sell headsets) then VR will become much more main screen.
