Halloween Sales pointless
On a normal sale you get steam card...when you buy games you get extra steam cards, you craft badges get extra stuff.

So buying anything now would be completely pointless right?

I have one 80% deal and many 75% deals as well, so i wouldn`t call it pointless, if you care that much about cent cards, then wait for the winter sale.

Wrong sales event.
Pretty much this. Only the Summer and Winter have games/cards/badges featured by default.

There's never been a warranty of other minor sales (Halloween, Black Friday, St Valentine) to feature games.

So we now reached the point where people buy games at a sale just to get trading cards?
Just like people bought games to boost their library count or to get the sale achievements to get freebies. Nothing new under the sun.

I personally buy them now to play them when I have time. Sure I have a humognous backlog, but I have disposable income to allow it to grow even bigger. And there's always a few games I play right off the bat after buying them.

You can actually play the games you buy, you know? There's crazy people out there who do that during sales. :)

Playing games?! What ?! Heresy !

Seriously speaking, I have finished about 400 games from my library, sadly over a 1000 I had to label as crap as I just couldn't be bothered (games from bundles where I wanted 1 and it came with 10 others... etc. plus some disappointments).

Thing is, during proper big sale I can maximize profit by crafting badges, getting extra wallpapers, emots to sell, to then buy games etc. :)

It's not a big sale, wait for next month's big sale

You really have to hand it to Valve: they created an environment to mindlessly spend more money in an industry many complain about high prices, secondary monetization and exploiting customers ... and barely anyone cares.

So getting games for up to 80% off is pointless if you don't get trading cards that sell for under $.05?

I'm planning on getting some games, I haven't decided how many. Some of the games will have cards drop when I play them, some of those cards will be worth more than I received during either the winter or summer sales.

its a good way to get expensive games

More like people still complain. :)
I have yet to see a sale without complaints. It's kind of a funny tradition.

I enjoy and despise them at the same time.

No guarantee that winter will offer the lowest prices. It might be worth checking a games price histiory if youre not buying to play immediately.

Ive picked up a couple of games at 66% off when the pattern for the last few years has been for them to be 50% during the summer/winter sales with the lower discounts happening inbetween the major sales.

each sales we need an obligatory "this sales sucks!" thread

See you all during winter sales with even more ppl crying how sales are totally the worst

Jokes aside: i hope you know that back in the old retail times, you were lucky to see sales as deep as sometimes on Steam

Only the Steam Awards, Winter and Summer sales give you cards earned by browsing a discovery queue and you can craft badges.
Other ocasional sales that don't last so much won't give you any of these.
Yup Halloween sales is pretty pointless, really. They are just doing it for the sake of tradition that's about it.

Will be holding off until winter sales.

It's a work thing, maximising your profits.

Some people say its a few p per card, but this all adds up, I bought Grim Dawn when it launched with money from card...so basically free and made further purchases worth like 30GBP.

If you think about it we all have backlogs...last year I made a mad dash to clear out some games from my backlog, still not cleared all.

And that is you.

You are free to wait for sales with card, but a sale is not pointless with out them. Most people just want to get the games at a good discount and don't care about cards.
