getting random steam CARDS for games i no longer have installed?

lets start off by saying i have steam guard and a steam guard authenticator active.

i live alone so no one else has access to my account, and i have not received any emails about changes / odd loggins to my account.

twice this week i have had trading cards added to my steam inventory (like i earned them) for games i own, but no longer have installed. one was left for dead 2, the other one i forgot.

i know steam awards packs of cards occasionally, but i have never heard of them giving single cards for games you own randomly...

can anyone explain this?

i am going to change my password again (changed it the first time this happened earlier this week) but i want to know what is going on. thx

They say this is normal.. I say it is not.. this JUST started happening recently.. and i think something is afoul.

If a dev can push a card years later and make money off of it.. there certainly should be a limit.

This is normal, and not the first time it has happened on Steam. Generally happens when new Steam cards are added to a game, to make it fair for everyone they send out card to everyone that would have earned it had the card existed or the method to earn the card existed at the time the person was playing the game.

But it's happening for old games that have already had cards for years, like Portal 2, Terraria, and Saints Row 3.

Someone said Steam Support told them that some games increased the number of cards you can get from those games, but that doesn't make sense either, because that would mean only certain people qualify for those extra cards. I haven't gotten any and my badges page says I have no card drops remaining.

I think the most likely explanation is that it's a bug, and that Steam Support rep didn't know what he was talking about.

this is the thing tho. the game was left for dead 2, which has had cards implemented for years....
so that rules out options 2-3... and the card i received was a old card+ it doesnt look as if any new ones were added - which rules out option one....

posted this in another forum section and it seems its happening to numorous people. mostly with older games, and as far as they can tell. steam just started doing card drops as well as pack drops based on your steam level now

it used to be packs only ... randomly... once you got all the card drops.... higher chances based on steam lv....

now people are getting random card drops, regardless of if they have or have not collected all there card drops for said game, and single cards, as well as packs are now dropping..

previously to get your card drops you also had to be running the game, which in the cases reported recently we are not running the game, and in some cases, mine included, said game isnt even installed

no .. people are just getting the card drops they should have gotten for already accumulated playtime.

no one got card drops in addition to their maximum number of free drops they could have gotten.

1) rarely a game ever increases its set size, that is very very rare. so it is unlikely to be the reason ... very unlikely.

2) when a game gets trading cards added at any point in time after release, people that have playtime on the game, they will receive drops for the already accumulated playtime

3) redundant as it is the same as 2)

i explained this multiple times in other threads. nothing wrong or bugged here, you don't get more, you get the same as before, before what?

it all is because of a "naughty boy" account flag that blocks every card drop for a game for now 3 hours of playtime (was 2 before), you will only receive card drops after this amount of playtime.
they changed something about this and it turned off for many people ... that is why many people gotten "random unexplainable" card drops.

i can guarantee you, if you received cards during mid of june, you still had free drops left for those games and the playtime on those games was not very high.

that still leaves the question, why am i getting these card drops if im not playing said game.. do they drop now (if u have drops left) regardless of if ur playing or not?

i havent had left for dead 2 installed for years (although i had drops left) yet i randomly get a card out of nowhere for it without playing the game? as well as this happening with another game (forgot which one, at the time i thought someone might have had access to my account so i changed my password, didnt realize something was changed card wise).
