How to see a friend's steam username/id?

A friend of mine had their computer lost and on their new one is trying to get their Steam account back, but they've forgotten which email they used for the account and they don't remember their login username. Is there a way I can find it for them if they're on my friend list? Going to their profile only tells me a string of numbers.

you cannot see the username of other steam users, at all.
