Been waiting and waiting but seems like there won't be a spring sale at all?

It's not an "official Spring Sale" though is it? :/ Just a random sale, nothing unusual.

there is no "spring sale".

that is an incentive to play your games and test advertised free ones.

There has never been a spring sale. Next sale will be in late June probably.

Steam summer sale which is arguably the biggest one is in a month so this is rather an event of sorts not a sale.

Yeah total crap. Whats the incentive to go through the ordeal.
While other platforms have freebies, discounts and tiered rewards like GOG.
STEAM users get some automated invitation to go through random games and that is it.

The sale itself is bog standard. 33% of the games on sale are these less than 50cent shovelware releases that are on sale constantly.
Off to Epic Games.

Been waiting for the sale, says it was supposed to be yesterday. Instead I get this crappy event.

Worst part is one of the games I wanted is Don't Starve, but only the multiplayer one is on sale.
