Can we please use the search?
Agreed.
And before you respond OP, keep in mind everyone not in a coma for the last 8 months who has something to say about this issue has said nearly every possible permutation of the thing you've said or are going to say. So mission accomplished, you helped save the world. Good job.
So, lets discuss this. Is Valve overstepping their position? Is their monopoly in PC gaming really being threatened due to their own greed? What do you think?
be the pioneer. go, use the epic game store exclusively for the next 2 years.
dont come back here. dont post here, just go the full epic experience.
if the store still exists then or for the small chance that it is even profitable and can sustain itself, you can come back here and tell the Steam users.
wouldn't that be a great feeling?
Besides, if percentages are really your primary concern, Itch is ahead of both of them, with devs having total control over the cut they pass on to the store.
Why is this a thing and why did I not know I need this! That's +1 in my library!
I'm sick and tired of people repeating that talking point, it's irrelevant at this point. The Industry Standard will likely not change and Epic Games will either raise their cut eventually or operate at a loss until their store is no longer commercially viable for them. You can't run a good store at a 12% cut. The only reason Epic can is because their storefront is literally barebones. They have nothing but a webpage, checkout, and Friends' list. Not even a dang shopping cart, something that would take 30 minutes to implement if you have a competent developer team.
It's even worse now that Tim Sweeney is literally just turning the shopping cart and hate into a meme on twitter. I swear I think that man is a man-child every time I see him do something in gaming news.
Let's also take a moment to remember that Valve recently (last year) implemented a sliding scale on their revenue share, and a game that sells well will go down to a 20/80 split rather than a 30/70 split.
Also, literally nobody complained about the split before Epic started screaming about it for no real reason but to make themselves temporarily look good.
And also, many "Epic Exclusives" are on Microsoft's Store now, which Charges a 30 percent cut just like Steam does. If you want evidence, go on your Windows 10 PC, click the MS Store, search up "The Outer Worlds", "Metro Exodus", and "Phoenix Point", all of them are slated to come to Microsoft's Store, and Outer Worlds and Metro are already up for purchase on it.
The revenue split argument is not really relevant at this point as said publishers are not going to Epic for it but are rather just in a contract with Epic due to the up-front payments by Epic. In other words, Epic bought them out in what appeared to simply be an "Anti-Steam / Anti-GOG" contract.
Do you go to Wal Mart and tell everyone there to go to Target instead?
