Cooldown on comments is lame.

This feature is broken as hell. Comments that are over 1000 characters long give an error saying that you can't post, but this also contributes to your comment limit on other peoples profiles. Meaning that if you try to put the 1000 character limit down a couple of times, along with discussing with said user on whatever is happening, you're locked out of commenting for like 24 hours.

"Sorry, some kind of error has occurred: You've been posting too frequently, and can't make another post right now."

So if there's talks going on in somebodys comment box, you essentially can't do more than five comments within a short period of time. I know this is to prevent spam, but it's implemented in such a lame way. It doesn't factor that said author of profile is also commenting on his profile after I've done so. After it triggers, this locks me out of commenting on every single profile out there that isn't friended to me. It doesn't just lock you out of that profile, it just automatically assumes you're going to spam every single profile you come across.

Awful design that has been round for years. Just as lame as the swear filter that you can't turn off.

profile comments are not a way for extensive communcation though

and seeing what you call "talks going on" is just spam.

Their definition of spam is essentially "No discussions in a public place." My guess is that they've never been on the internet before.

This should be up the discretion of the author of said profile. Not Valve.

It might be their service, but they're also actively restricting users who just want to talk on (multiple) different accounts. Apparently this is considered spam by Valve, which is not the case. They could easily improve it by allowing users to choose how comments are managed on their profile. If you're allowed to make your profile private and disable comments, you should also be allowed to tweak how comments are handled.

If said user is spamming the same message five times in a row, then have an option to disable it, if said profile user wishes to have this happen on their profile, let them have it happen. (And this is just assuming that they are going to spam the same exact message, doesn't say anything about multiple messages in a row to discuss something publicly).

Just set this spam limit to each account as default like how game hours are set to private as default, and those who feel the need to change it, should be allowed to change it in their settings. That way people don't get screwed over by an obsolete anti-spam measure by disabling their function to comment on all profiles out there.

Totally agreed with Sharpie. That thing definetely is bs. I barely post comments and omg, just because I'm having one conversation, this is spam, wow! And I only sent like 6 messages. Yeah this is bs.
