"I made a terrible mistake on your account"
2 people have allegedly falsely reported me and want to prevent me from getting banned. Both of them have a friend named 'deathwish' who supposedly got banned the same way, and lost his items because of it. I'm not sure if both of them want me to get in contact with an administrator to inform them that the (non-existent) pending ban is a mistake, because the second guy went silent when I asked him if I should.

If this is some kind of weird complex scam I haven't heard about before, let me know.

report and block the idiots, move on.
Latest guy told me to contact a super sketch profile with comments disabled and exactly 15 years just like the last dude, reported and unfriended immediately. Thanks for letting me know lads.
honestly, the one community moderator I follow DISCOURAGES friending. Just a big ol "nope"
Pattern of scam:

Bait (pressure), story, steps.
it's simple. if you didn't do something wrong, ignore the threat, report, and move on.

afaik the only system that allow player or user to have direct control over someone that they reported or voted is in a matter of vote kick from game lobby or something like that (aka doesn't have serious consequenses). Other than that, report about more serious things like cheating, toxicity, etc that have serious consequenses (ban) would always need to be reviewed and investigate first by the dev team.

And secondly, remember that steam support WOULD NEVER ever try to contact you directly. so if there's any new type of scam in the future that say "contact this guy, he's steam support" you know what to do. ignore, report and move on.

The accounts have been hi-jacked and currently in the hands of scammers. They would be returned to your friends eventually. So you (and others reading this) may not want to unfriend them. That said, I would unfriend anyone on my list who falls for this. :tgrin:
Unfriend this POS that claims he reported you how anyone can fall for this scam is beyond me. Last person that tried to do this to me I called every name in the book. People that waste their life trying to scam others is the lowest form of filth there is 2nd only to people that attack others with ransom-ware, publish private personal info to the public, and talk in movie theaters.
Using the bare minimum amount of common sense will make you not fall for any scam.

It's not bad advice. I generally let friend requests build up for a few weeks alongside any other notifications then dismiss them all. People don't half take it personally though.

Apparently you have to write a friending manifesto on your profile to keep the masses happy. 😶
:minilol: Yeah who needs friends on a gaming platform? honestly my recommendation would be to not use steam, so you won't get scammed. /s

I've got plenty of friends on this gaming platform, thanks. Most of them are RL friends and my reason is more because I don't want doxxing-happy shut-ins, racists and homophobes from other forums popping up on the same activity feed. It's an added bonus if scammers are getting shut-out as well. So yeah, my recommendation is that you stop assuming that everyone else needs to use Steam the way you do.
Cool story bud. Where exactly do I assume that everyone else needs to use steam the way I do?
