Allowed to make a new steam account for every game?
I want to do this to get around the family sharing restriction of only 1 player playing: If i make an account for every game, the people at my home can just play through a specific account's library and thus they don't need to wait turns to play games.

I'm just not sure if this is allowed or not. It seems harmless to me.

You can create as many Steam accounts as you want.
You are still not allowed to share the login information of those accounts with other users.

not disallowed but very soon your plan will turn into a giant mess of arguments.
everyone buys and plays their own stuff, done and you still have the option to take turns.

No, but i can share all those libraries using Family Sharing on other accounts, right? This way i don't have the "Library in use" issue for different games, because they're all technically different libraries.

Back in the day i could just use 3 PC's and just insert discs for specific games without the "one user per library" stuff. Why you can't play different games at the same time on one account seems silly. This means that if you have kids or friends you want to share games with it's better to spread the games over multiple accounts instead of putting it all into one, just so you're not limited to 1 person just being able to play, or everyone buying the game four times, which is something i'd never do.

There's nothing "family" about this sharing, sadly.

I mean, it IS possible to run multiple games at the same time on the same account and same PC, so why not on the PC that's two meters away from me?

Yes.

@NotCYF ... How many extra accounts were you thinking of juggling?!? Seems you're making it over complicated.

Just let every gamer in family have their own account with a strict budget. If the kids are too young to be put in charge of money, they can create wishlists for parental approval. Having duplicate licenses doesn't matter, if that's what they want to play. You'll need seperate licenses to play together/co-op.

There are HUGE sales every summer/winter, with lots in between.

There's an expected one coming soon for Halloween.

I'd do anything to save money. If (for example) my kids wants to play Divinity: Original Sin 2 and i want to play Dark Souls III at the same time, and then we want to swap the games around then having 2 accounts for 2 different games is cheaper than buying both games twice.

It seems like the family sharing issue with Steam is a lost cause. Clearly, steam is only gunning for your wallet. You can try to explain your way around this over and over, but the idea that my entire library is locked to one user is functionally ridiculous. If I have a vast movie library and 5 TVs, I’m not going to tell every TV to turn off while one is in use. This also incredibly limits the Steam Deck, essentially creating one more expensive tool that is locked up waiting for access to one “library” (even Nintendo is more lenient in this department).

If you have kids DO NOT BUY A STEAM DECK. The hardware is great, but the library locking is bull$h!7

If Valve changed it people would abuse it and publishers would pull their games from family sharing. Then you would have nothing to share effectively killing family sharing altogether.

You either get the system we have now or nothing.

Go into Offline Mode while they play online.

You can only family share your library with 5 other accounts. If you use all the slots and want to change account you're sharing with, there will be 90 day cooldown after you channel the sharing with previous account. So no, you can't make say 100 accounts each with 1 game and enable family sharing between all of them.

Is there a limit to the number of accounts I can share my Library with?

Yes. A Steam account may authorize Family Library Sharing on up to 5 accounts and on up to 10 devices in a 90 day period. This includes accounts/devices that you have cancelled sharing with in that same time period.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
