Activating steam using digital gift cards

My friend sent me 10$ as a digital gift on steam and I purchased a game with this amount of money but my steam account didn't get activated it is still limited.. please help

I am not sure if you redeemed the Steam gift card like a game - because I never got one gifted. Or if you have a code just like the Steam Wallet codes.

If you buy a Steamcard from a local shop enter the code to fill your Steam Wallet this should do it. But I can´t guarantee for it.

receiving a digital gift card does not add to your total spent amount on Steam. if he would have given you a physical steam gift card or a wallet code from an external seller like paypal, then that would have counted.
