Critical save bug in Ripto's rage?

Last I was playing through the stages of Summer Forrest and wound up getting the talismans from a few of the stages. I also paid Moneybags to learn to swim underwater. Then, I saved and quit.

This morning, I come to find that when I opened the game I was placed in Glimmer, the first stage of the game. It was super strange. I go to the guidebook and it was only showing that I had the talisman for glimmer. Going back to summer forest I was able to see on the portals that I had the talismans for many of the worlds I completed last night. After going through them they would show as completed in the guidebook. Strangely enough, however, I have lost the ability to swim underwater and moneybags is nowhere to be seen. I cannot progress any further. Anyone else experience anything like this, and is there an easy fix?

same issue since launch im guessing. the game overwrites your save file automatically with outdated hidden autosaves whenever you load the game without an internet connection.

It'd be nice if someone found the exact byte in the save file responsible for the ability to swim. It really could be as simple as flipping a single byte with a hex editor, though the process of figuring out what that byte is could be a challenge.
