"Bug Control" achievement glitch (or I'm stupid)

No matter what I do for the achievement I don't unlock it! I've tried it in one power-up use, one flight w/ no landing whatsoever, and can't figure out what I'm missing! Am I being stupid?
BTW: I have the permanent super flame unlocked, not sure if this bugs it/ prevents me from getting it.
I guess I could say I need some BUG control? I'm sorry.

"You need to kill all 18 spiders (Dracklets) in one glide without touching the ground and without missing any spider. This trophy requires precision and timing because missing even one spider means having to redo the challenge from scratch. This is because these slimy creatures regenerate if you don’t kill them all in one single glide."

Here I had to exit then re-enter the level to have it working, but perhaps I was unlucky

This achievement has always been a bit janky, even on the Xbox version of the game. When I got it on both platforms I made sure not to land after starting and I was able to fly through the superfly gate to recharge without affecting it; if I messed up I would just lose a life to reset everything.
That being said I have also seen videos where it pops for people who do it in a single loop even after touching the ground, so it's never been 100% clear what the requirements are or if they were changed.
