I know the classic formula has potential even to this day, hence why Spyro 3 on PS1 is a game I always come back to due to how memorable, replayable and fun it is even after all these years. Not to mention Season of Flame on GBA was actually pretty good despite the limitations of the GBA, partially because it kept the classic formula of the PS1 trilogy.
The way I see it, the Skylanders series are not Spyro games - they're Skylanders games that just so happen to have Spyro in it possibly to cash in on a popular brand.
