Disclaimer: I was given the game for free by Activision to be part of the GDQ event tonight.
I can only talk about the PC version so what I say here have nothing to do with the Switch version. So the game looks good on PC. However it has some massive issues when it comes to framerate. Turns out the lower your fps is the higher you are able to jump, which really ruins a lot of things. This also means some of the jumps we can do on 30 fps is not possible on 60+ fps. Also the game just have a lot weird glitches when you go above 100 fps. One example is Spyro slides around when you are neutral on high fps. The level Alpine Ridge just doesn’t work on 60 fps because the wizards does not move on 60 fps. I have not played Spyro 2 or 3 that much but it also pretty bad there. A lot these things will only effect speedruns so it might not be an issue if you just want a casual playthrough but you have to play on 30 to 50 fps to have the most stable experience and that is not really acceptable imo. So I would say don’t buy the game unless it gets patch or you really love Spyro but then the console version seems a lot better."
Pasted from Elkajaer's discord server, written by Elkajaer, one of Spyro speedrunners.
Then again, this doesn't really surprise me, as some games are tied to framerate,. especailly if they came from japan etc, Metal wolf on steam is 30 FPS, and probably will have loads of issues if pushed higher, which is why its locked to 30.
This sort of problem is so deep rooted into game's physics I don't think they'll fix it, unless they'll do it the same way they fixed Crash Nitro Fueled coin grind - aka by adding shortcuts you can pay for with real money.
yeah, as many PS1 games from japan / etc, are nearly always linked to framerate, so increasing the FPS is a bad idea, so it might be the game can't be fixed, even I think the original dark souls has problems with running at 60. So its possible this game could be similar.
It isn't a PS1 game though, it's a modern game using Unreal Engine 4
It should translate to PC very well, in theory.
Dark Souls isn't a PS1 game either. And Dark Souls Remastered is a current gen re-release that has slight fps-related issues.
It's also not the only game in current few years to have those problems. Most infamous example would be FO76.
Never said Dark Souls was a PS1 game though, neither did I say only PS1 games can suffer issues/bugs.. But he still said
I gave DS1 as an example of a current game that is still tied to framerate, even though a modder has increased the FPS of the original, it still can give players some bugs when progressing through the game.
