How do the other Spyro games not made by insomniac fare?

I've only played enter the dragon fly and the reboot called a new beginning which I remember very little other than Sparx is voiced by David Spade and that the game was a beat em up.

ive heard bad things about the skylanders games but outside the core 3 ps1 games all ive played are a few old GBA ones which were alright but not great

Did one of the developers confirm that? It would explain why that game has only one homeworld from what I remembered.

It's confirmed universal rushed it out for Christmas and that there's a bunch of cut content which leads to weird things like how money bags only appears in the first level. 10% is just a number I like to use for it since it feels like an alpha game with some rushed out graphics that look like puke.

the legend games were good..... i mean, if you like sudden emo sounding (to me) spyro coupled with rpg stuff he shouldn't need..... not the ♥♥♥♥♥♥, glitchy mess enter the dragonfly was, or the too much meta in a hero's tail. i do think insomniac should have kept going with spyro, but i understand and accept that they wanted their main character to do more things than flaming and charging, but couldn't figure out, you know, the guy has thumbs, so they went with ratchet.

None of the Spyro games after Insomniac left were as good as the original 3. It was a deluge of either really terrible games or painfully average ones. Insomniac stopped making Spyro because by their own admission they had run out of ideas on what to do with the character, which explains why in Spyro 3 they started dabbling in new player characters, and why they would later make Ratchet and Clank. And you can definitely see this with later Spyro games where the only ideas they had for new gameplay elements were tacked on RPG elements and new breath abilities. Like we haven't seen those before.

Enter the Dragonfly would have been a better if it didn't come with so many glitches, but some of it's level design & music I quite liked. However the devs got a bit lazy & didn't make as many levels, and re-used the Spyro 2 bosses.

A Hero's Tail wasn't too bad. It's more open, only portals are for sgt byrd's flight challenges, Gems are technically infinite & they're for buying things at moneybag's shop. It's not quite like the previous games, but it still plays like Spyro & I still quite enjoyed it.

The LOS games weren't too bad either, at least the GC/Wii/XBOX/PS2/PS3 versions. Even more open, but instead your main attack is now melee (you still flame however, but you would be melee'ing a lot more). Still found (after some time) the gameplay, cutscenes, and the lovely soundtrack to be quite enjoyable. Also, I must admit that Cynder is quite cute in LOS. They were going to make an actual movie out of LOS but it was cancelled.

Gameboy Advance versions of Spyro were OK, but I wasn't really a fan of them.

The "Legend" series was great! I had to use a PS2 emulator (bought the game then realized its for ps2 lol), and i never got to play the 3rd one, but they were great games!

The Gameboy Advance Spyro games are great, and actually pretty challenging (For 13 yo me, anyway)

Dragon's Tail is also a great game, and is also the debut of Ember (Doesn't play nearly as important role as Cynder in Legend Series, but is voiced by Tara Strong, so...)

Legend of Spyro is more story focused and is very much one of those "It's a movie with gameplay segments in between" kind of things. So I would only play it if that's your kind of thing, and if not there is always lets plays.

Skylanders gets a lot of hate from Spyro fans, but the games actually aren't that bad, and if you set the difficulty to maximum can actually be quite challenging. (A simple solution to the problem where, the more Skylanders you have the more lives you effectively have, is to limit yourself to 3 Skylanders per level, if all of them get KOed it's game over) The problem is finding the right Skylanders figures that you want. Especially now days where they are becoming harder and harder to find.

Aside from Enter the Dragon (Which was the publisher's fault, not the developer) I don't think there even is a bad Spyro game.

GBA games - quite good, but nothing special

Legend of Spyro - A reboot. Spyro looks kinda... strange. The games are avrarage. Not the worst, but they are far more story based and gameplay looks like something which has been taken from the God of War series. Too much combat. Story is quite decent, but gameplay is meh.

I've played all of them and Hero's Tale is my 2nd fav Spyro game (Year of the Dragon is 1st)! I love going back to replay it every once in awhile. I enjoyed The Legend of Spyro series but didn't care much about how much fighting there was. I do love the 3rd one though. (It's my 3rd fav)
I liked them all tbh. Some more than others.
Enter the Dragonfly is still fun to me since I haven't ran into a bad glitch. Some of the challenges are just really annoying
I'd have to replay the Gameboy ones and Shadow Legacy again since I don't remember much about them.
(This is talking about actual Spyro btw. Not Skylanders)

The people who ♥♥♥♥ on Skylanders are those who haven't actually played it and are still bitter about Spyro being mis-used for marketing purposes. They're fun games, though not entirely like classic Spyro, as your goal isn't to collect much of anything. The currency you pick up is for upgrading your skills and the emphasis is more on combat with unique moves per character.

Enter the Dragonfly is... best played as a drinking game where you take a shot every time the game glitches.

A Hero's Tail kinda takes the series in a more open-world, exploration-based direction. I liked it but it's not much like the originals.

The GBA games are okay, they use the original collectathon style of gameplay. Season of Ice is annoying to complete. Season of Flame might be better, and I've heard much nicer things about Attack of the Rhynocs. Spyro Orange is fine but it isn't great, a lot of copy-paste minigames.

Shadow Legacy for the DS is a darker, open world exploration game. A lot of people don't like it because of the tone, I liked it a lot.

The Legend of Spyro has decent gameplay which gets better every game, but is never exactly amazing. It's more a story thing. The story itself isn't mind-blowing either, but the world has a lot of potential, hence the still-semi-active cult following.

Skylanders itself looks like a fun game but as far as I understand, Spyro is just something they put in the title. He has nothing to do with the story and you have no requirement to play as him. But the gameplay seems solid.
