I did have the Stone Hill thief seem to get caught on some rock textures while trying to run away, making him real easy to get.
Not sure if that counts.
Also, when they do that laughing animation, they won't start running until they finish the animation, allowing you to rush in and kill them before they have a chance to run away.
Anyway, think of chasing the egg-guys like game-development. As a general rule, you want to cut as many corners as possible, and get to the end goal by following the shortest and fastest path. (You might even want one finder on the charge button and the other on the flame button, so that you can blast him the moment he gets into range)
I tried reducing FPS to 30, but I still caught the one at the beginning of Magic Crafters easily. Come to think of it, not only was he slow, he also started running quite late.
OP said nothing about frame-rate.
The only known problems that have anything to do with frame-rate are the Druid Door in Alpine Ridge, and Spyro sliding around on his butt. Both of which can be easily fixed by adjusting the frame rate. The rest is just hear-say.
I'm not sure if they are easier or, this game being many years after I played the PS1 version, I'm just better at the game now so they aren't as challenging anymore.
By that same vein I was nowhere near 100% my first Spyro playthrough years ago. I couldn't do the flight levels to save my life. Now though, I only struggled on one of them and easily got 120% on Spyro and 100% on Ripto's Rage which I'd never even played before.
Look, i don't even have to use my sprint to catch them, so i guess there is some issue.
Sounds like a glitch, in my copy they're running full pelt and definitely need to charge at them.
