controller
I know this might sound like a stupid question, but this is the first time I'm playing something on a pc and I have no idea how it works. I tried playing with my keybord, but it's an absolute nightmare. Do you guys know it's possible to plug the controller to the pc and then use that to move spyro?

if it's a wired controller it's plug and play. Other ones might support bluetooth if not you will need an adapter

We don't know which controller you're using. Most you just plug into the USB port and they'll work.

it really depends on the controller. an xbox controller (360 *or* one) will work out the box. in fact, a sweeping majority of modern PC games have native support for xbox controllers and even have accurate button prompts (A,B,X,Y etc). your 2nd best options would be either a playstation controller or a switch pro controller, and to use the controller configuration settings within steam. you basically plug in the controller, or sync them via bluetooth, and then open steam and go to settings>controllers. the controller plugged in should be recognised and listed in the bottom left, or you can do a scan for connected controllers. then you check the box applicable to the controller you're using (steam has full support for playstation and switch pro controllers as selectable options). following that, they should just work as you'd expect, though button prompts in games will normally still show xbox prompts, so 'X' on a playstation would be prompted as pressing 'A', etc.

while you can get playstation and switch controllers working very well thanks to steam, or 3rd party software, i really would just grab an xbox one controller some time (can get them bundled with a PC USB adaptor for its wireless connection. windows 10 includes all the related drivers already. while mouse and keyboard is clearly best for things like shooters, i have no idea how people can stand to play platformers, racing games, fighting games, 3rd person adventure games etc with a keyboard.

If you have a standard usb controller you can use built in steam emulator, so it will function as PS4 or XBone controller. I have a PS2 pad with USB adapter and it works flawlessly. This works with every game launched with steam.

Settings are in Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings > Generic Gamepad Configuration Support

I'm trying to play this with a PS4 controller, but it doesn't seem to be detecting my controller. Is it just not compatible? I'm having to use Steam to map keyboard keys to it, but I'm not getting full analog directionality that way. Is there any way to get the PS4 controller to work?

Connected my PS4 controller via Bluetooth, it worked fine until yesterday. If I go to the controller settings on Steam is says no controller found, even though it works in other games (like Brawlhalla) but on Spyro it just wont work anymore, even though the touch panel in the middle allows me to scroll through the menu, just my buttons won't work anymore. I did not change anything in the meanwhile. Also tried enabling PS4 and XBOX configs in the settings. Still won't work. I'm close to just leave it, but Spyro is one of my favorite games and I just can't imagine why it's not working anymore... It's just frustrating
