Drop in animation quality?
Am i the only one who noticed a significant drop in animation quality in this game compared to CS1 and CS2? I'm talking about the 2 minute intro anime scene that introduces you to the game (more like the trailer i guess) it's quality is simply ugly to look at when you compare it to the previous two games.

Granted i'm being nitpicky considering how amazing the game is otherwise and how beautiful the graphics are but still these anime scenes are very important ya know?

Yeah I know what you mean. Tho it isn't as bad, but there is slight drop in quality. However, Cold Steel 4 has the worst anime opening art style wise among other CS games. It just looks bizarre.

The OP animation isnt nearly that bad. However as Kuro mentioned above, the CS4 OP is.

There is a reason for it. CS1-2 were made by Falcom themselves. CS3-4 went to outsource.

it looks more like an upgrade to me. CS1-2 opening animation looks so static (just slightly better than the opening of old games like Sky and Crossbell duology). i thought the opposite when i first saw CS 1-2 opening, thought it was sort of low budget anime opening knowing it's falcom, i understand. Now that they're outsourcing it to an actual anime studios hence the difference in animation.

When I first saw the opening, Rean did not look like what I remembered from previous game, and my biggest complain is the old class VII only appears right at the end in a picture frame. I know this is basically a new game with new characters, but disregarding the old characters we love is just bad taste, especially because they are actually important plot element, not simple cameo

I actually prefer the old static budget visual novel styles. The new anime opening's character design simply does not match the original art style.

IMHO it is a waste of money to make anime opening unless it is as good as Persona or Tales openings.

Old Class VII are not main plot characters in this game. They are support characters, so it makes sense.

I've noticed the difference, but i think it's mostly a change in style; while the drawing is more simplified, the quality of actual animation has if anything improved, in the sense there's some actual animation in these scenes to speak of, and it's fairly fluid and decently done.

I prefer CS1 & 2's openings since they have high quality character art and background art. The CS3 & 4 openings do have good background art as well, but it falls on the character side. Sure, the animation may allow for more action in it, but the CS3 opening is mostly made up of stationary shots that could be easily replicated by the CS1&2 style. Maybe they tried to replicate it in 3?

In fact, if you compare CS3 and 4's openings to the Ys VIII and Tokyo Xanadu openings, you will definitely notice a sharp drop in quality despite being from the same studio.
It wasn't great, and just gave me the feeling that it was originally a placeholder that they couldn't really be bothered replace with a final version.

If it had solely been shown during the main menu title, it wouldn't have been too bad, but inserting it after the intro bit of game just makes it feel really jarring.

Really? IIRC, CS1&2 animations were terrible, like the scene that Fie finishes off a boss monster, showing off her skills, it was like they didn't at all to make her flip looks realistic.

This thread is specifically about the opening title animation for cs3.

Agree in-game ones for cs1 and cs2 weren't overly great though.

the intro is spoilers for me so i always skip it, i dont need to know at the start the identity of "???" character that you only get thier name near the end.

Its hard to describe but the animation style used for Trails in the Sky trilogy(non-evo), Crossbell duology(non-evo) and Cold Steel 1 and 2 openings is just much more pleasing to look at in my opinion.

Only thing that dropped in quality was the translation since NIS has toddlers who've never played the series before google translating lines.
