schedule overriden when assigning a task
At some point there was a small change that I don't like at all. When you assign a job to a crew member their schedule gets overriden to "work" for 3 hours.

This is quite annoying as I usually assign exactly one task to a crew member that is not on work hours, like refilling the kitchen for the morning during the evening leisure time, or repairing a broken facility.

I don't get the reasoning behind this change and find it quite annoying. I would like to see this change reversed and being able to assign tasks without overriding the schedule at all.

haven't noticed it, but haven't started a new game in a while and that's usually the only time I ever manually assign people jobs, at the beginning when there's no spare crew who are idling around. but overtime does default to 3hr so, that is normal.

OK then devil's advocate here - what's the big deal? it's one extra click to disable the overtime when they finish up, in a sea of thousands of clicks, does it really bother you that much? how much are you manually assigning tasks? it should be few and far between, only in needed-right-now! kind of scenarios... and if you picked someone off-duty to assign, then that does make sense, so... not sure it's as big a deal as you're making it out to be.

so you want that automated? if someone is on leisure or sleeping and you assign them, it triggers work overtime, they go do the thing, and when they're done they go back to the leisure or sleep setting immediately w/o you turning off overtime yourself?
I only assign tasks once in a while. I just don't understand why this suddenly overrides the schedule. Before, the schedule stayed the same and the crew member just did the job assigned to them.
Not a big deal, but still annoying to have to disable the override. Why is it there in the first place?
reported that already when the station patch came, because there they implemented it.
Funnily, you, Nebelbiber dont got what i reported back than, and responded instead as if i dont get the basics of the game...
it's everywhere not just that. if someone is sleeping on the floor and you draft them to go to a bed (usually a chatty person distracted them leaving a bathroom or long hallway, they'll go find the nearest 0 discomfort doorway to pass out) drafting them and putting them in a bunk puts them on 3hr sleep overtime... it is what it is, I guess.

I remember that and I'm sorry for my reply (couldn't find the thread anymore). I didn't play the game back then and didn't realize that the update changed this behavior. I stand corrected!

Didn't know that, but what's your point? Shouldn't we point out these things, so hopefully the devs will make the player experience better?

you have to specify. That's what this community is for. Don't get upset. We're just discussing everything. You're doing great.
he doesn't sound upset, just confused and a bit frustrated why this weird mechanic exists now. and we've no idea til they tell us, cause it's not obvious it was enabled as a way to allow something that wasn't working the previous way...

and that was my point, just making people aware, it seems any manual control of a crewman to do something triggers this overtime, cept sending them to a med bed? well it is java we can always take it upon ourselves to change it down the road, too, if it ships like this.

I truly expect modding to take off like a wildfire once 1.0 releases, though that might be just wishful thinking.
This automated Schedule Override behavior is extremely annoying, almost as if they had a new designer who did not play Space Haven much.

First you have to micromanage crew a lot, then the game punishes you by adding a nonsensical "work draft 3 hours" status.
I could live with a ONE hour work draft but as is, one single "Hey you recycle this scrap" command means I'll then have to find and click the assigned person and manually reduce the override.
This is worse with harder difficulties where you tend to micro more. Also many ppl seem to use a schedule where the crew has one-hour rest and sleep periods during the workday, and MAN things become annoying if you start selecting crew not by skill, but by "how far from the break are they" just because of bad mechanics you cannot turn off.

Another major annoyance is automated system readiness - it seems to always send out sleeping crew, so you wind up with sleep deprived status on most of your crew, and then you need to bloody micromanage again by setting five hours of sleep time manually. I'd want a toggle so Automated system readiness only uses the orange setting (working crew spend their time on task, sleeping ones don't.)
