First off - the game is mono compiled, so a partial access to a form of source code is there. Is it enough to make it past entire nonsense authentication - hard to tell, but I think - it should be possible.
Second - I did some experiments past authentication to verify whatever there are some online components running in singleplayer. Essentially the test was to get past API authentication connected, then disconnect and see if I can get to singleplayer mode - there was a bunch of errors from Steamworks on the way - but it seems to be playable.
So purely theoretically at this point it should be possible to get the singleplayer running "without what publisher claims is source code access". But I might be wrong.

Thing is - I haven't played this game much, so I won't even notice if something isn't working as intended.
OK, this is actually kind of absurd how easy it was to get part of the multiplayer running again. I don't think "Friend pass" will work, though.
mate you didn't have to do any of this but thanks for all the hard work you got a place i can pop a couple of bucks for the effort
Not the hero we deserved, but the hero we needed.
