Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress

constant brawling under the influence
How the heck do I reduce how often this happens? Dwarves randomly killing them selves, their kids, their lovers and/or the monarch is getting really tiresome.

It tends to happen when you have a bartender, as they serve ALLOT of drinks.
I have an entertainer or two only and rarely have any problems. Occasionally a non dwarf gets dragged to the hospital to sleep of being drunk but that's its.

Taverns REALLY need a bouncer job position.
As mentioned, do you have an assigned tavern keeper? They can continue to serve drinks to patrons to the point of vomiting and becoming disorderly. Performers also serve drinks. To get rid of the problem outright, you can unassign the tavern keeper and/or performers. You can also try and keep your drink stockpile farther away so that your tavern keeper takes longer to serve drinks or give them some other duties besides just being a tavern keeper.

I don't think a tavern keeper is outright necessary iirc. So if it keeps happening, you should be safe to remove them from the position. I think the main benefit is that they can gather information from patrons.

Yep, getting artifact info out of drunken visitors is the closest thing to a tangible benefit, and visitors will still gossip sometimes. Performers help boost people's moods, but public taverns tend to attract a lot of bards and poets anyway. (Visitors and long-term residents will perform without handing out extra drinks, thankfully.)

Bartender most likely. Also worth noting to never have more than 1 chair/throne to a table.

Hmm why is that? I put a chair on each side of a table in my dining area and don't have any problems.

Drunken dwarves argue with each other if at the same table. Leads to fights.

Two.. ways? don't have a lot of bartenders, part of their job is to .. force.. people to drink. So limiting the number of goblets and bartenders helps.
but the primary thing is to make sure everyone is working a lot. they will drink once enroute to a job somewhere but usually they won't stick around for more than that. You get people drinking themselves to death and brawling when they don't have anything to do and they stay in the bar and keep drinking.

Turn your main stairwell into a giant mist generator. Especially between your sleeping area, workshops, temples and stockpiles. The mist / waterfall buff is a fortress saver. Also try to make all your dwarfs craft 1 thing per year and have some time off to pray, dance, sing or rob stuff.

edit: just make sure the water flow does not surpass depth 2, anything higher will interrupt hauling orders and can possibly cause accidents that will injure people and animals. Light aquifers are great to do this due to how easy it is to control the flow of water being generated.

edit 2: you can drain it down at the bottom and/or store all that water for fishing, drinking and making Obsidian.

I've found that doing this has greatly decreased all the fights and tantrums that were occurring in my fortresses even though they had all the Grand temples, a few Grand guildhalls and a library.

Also just to add -- be very careful of adding any bartenders if you do not have a basic dormitory setup tied to the tavern. Especially if serving non-dwarves. Helps with sleeping off fights and not killing people.

it's not bad mood problem. i have very few dwarves not in the top 2 moods. I have a mist gen, auto bath, extremely nice bedrooms with encrusted masterwork furniture.

I'll try the dormitory thing. I have two bedrooms in the tavern but i notice noone uses them. I'll try zoning them dorm. I have only one barkeep in a bar with no tables
