Mining under grass or boulder doesn't remove the grass/boulder???
Maybe there's an obvious solution to this and maybe it's not a bug, but... I was clearing a couple areas in a 'valley' starting location and decided to remove a few spots including some dirt ramps. After removing them I scrolled up and found that the grass (and a boulder) that rested on the spots I cleared were still there? Seems like that should not be there after removing the ground below it, but is there a way to get rid of that? I can't mine the grass away.

Channel from the top, you've just mined into it leaving a roof.

Super duper Simplified but Z Levels are divided in two sections, a floor and a wall. So when you mine you are only removing the wall on the current Z level you are on, to remove a floor you going to haft to channel it, create a staircase downwards or deconstruct it. Thats why just becuse you removed the wall in the z level below doesnt impact floor above unless it was the thing supporting that floor.

Boulders when designated to be smoothed becomes floors that you can then remove.

This :steamthis: . But to be accurate what is left behind when mining out a tile is the Floor on the level above, not a roof. :mead::urist:

To remove surface boulders I usually build a wall on it then deconstruct. It's the fastest way to remove.

You used to be able to remove surface boulders by smoothing them, I assume that's still the case

It does work. I just prefer to do it this way than to move those Dwarves to surface when their jobs are down below.
