Water source for injured dwarfs in hospital at winter
What is a good water source for injured dwarfs in hospital at winter? They often die of thirst during winter because rivers are frozen.

underwater aquifier into an underground well.
or dig down toi the cavern layers, there is always some water somewhere to build a well.
(with floor grates and wallgrates so no enemy can come through the sewers :S
and with the floor grates even fisherman..sry dwarfs can fish through without getting eat by some swimming monsters.

Sick Dwarves in the hospital drink only water.

Make a Well next to the hospital and manage the water going into it. Then make sure the Hospital has buckets.
The Drink Water task is generated in the Hospital and only uses the Hospital buckets. You want the Well to be inside or really close to the Hospital.

Creating an underground cistern should be one of your first major projects. In places that freeze it needs to be a priority. Even if it's just a rushed pond.

Or just go down to the cavern levels.

^-- This.

It's not difficult to create a cistern ("Reservoir") that is fed by a stream.

https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Reservoir

Water does not freeze underground. So, as soon as a proper area is mined out to store the water, and hopefully some valves (I use Drawbridges) to allow for shut-off and maintenance are put in, it can then be exposed to the river using channels dug into it from above.

Putting in a properly constructed grate is necessary, as well, to prevent unauthorized access... Forgotten Beast protection needs to be installed, using an overhead grate, so that the FB can't attack it from a lower z-level as well. (Else, they can swim through the exposed water channel and up into the well access area.) That can be managed by digging down several levels below the "water level" of the stream, then meeting that with the rest of the water path mined out above and placing a grate so anything entering that water path from the outside will be faced with a grate above them in order to continue following the path of water. At that point, they can't attack directly up to destroy the grate and will be stopped.
