If you will play original version of the game with graphic tile sets (graphics are nice and readable) you will familiarize yourself with mechanics but you will miss the only and sole reason many of us paid money for it: easy to use, intuitive and accessible user interface (UI).
For now. Eventually the free version is getting the same interface, sans the Steam tileset and interface graphics.
Next you would have me believe that people who DONT like a thing might be the ones leaving the majority of negative reviews!
FILM AT 11!
I think this is the problem I am encountering trying to research if this game is right for me. There are no reviews from someone reviewing it without already knowing the Classic game. I can't seam to find a review that treats it as a new release for people who have no history with the original. They all rely on the viewer having some understanding already of why the game is so good, and that doesn't help me.
But yes, the steam release and the new UI/mouse control was really big for a lot people. From the one who wanted to play and couldn't deal with it's clunkyness, to the ones playing and wanting something better.
DF was ALWAYS difficult to get "into". Less now, with a proper UI/tutorial, but still it's true. That won't change.
Also, DF is big on learning through losing.
And to the other guy, saying only the negative reviews are "fair and honest" is trollish and biased. You may disagree, but that doesn't mean everyone should think like you.
Guy is an NPC. Reading his other posts shows the incredible nature of someone who almost occasionally successfully pretends to have original thoughts.
Still, Seth is a riot.
Yep, here is that series:

I agree that the title could have been phrased better :)
EDIT : yes, "let's learn", IE "I learn on video", and not "you learn". Don't play like her, she is, well, a noob :D
Thanks for the link. Guess I am going to be busy for a while. Those are very long videos but maybe the best I will get to knowing the game.
