Most of the positive reviews should be removed.
It's currently impossible to get an accurate impression of this game because fans of the ASCII version are leaving many positive reviews while barely playing this version of the game.

It's ridiculous that people with only 2-3 hours of play time are able to leave a positive review. I really don't care how many hours you played the ASCII game. As far I'm concerned their entirely two separate games and should be treated as such.

I cannot in good faith trust the accuracy of the reviews for this game and so I will not be buying it.

There are many games on steam that receive superficial reviews where people have barely played the game and in nearly all of those cases the games not worth buying for that reason I have to assume the same is true about dwarf fortress. It would be in your best interest to limit reviews to players who have actually played your game. Unless you want to willfully deceive players into buying a game that most people haven't really played yet.

Okay. Then it’s not worth buying for you.
“Buyers beware! You might not like this new game that nobody never heard of till yesterday!” - is hardly applicable to the Dwarf Fortress.
Write email to Valve, posting this here is pointless. Unless you just want to farm “awards”.

1) L take + didnt ask + cope
2) You really need other people to tell you what to buy..? The official dev youtube channel has hours worth of a new player playing the game on their channel. Go watch it and form an opinion yourself.

That is pure B.S. Steam DF is great and my review after almost 2 hours is all the proof you should need.

If you really need to see it for yourself simply go watch the nearly 12 hour live stream by Kruggsmash on yt instead of complaining in these forums. Hells, watch almost any other release day video and you will be able to see how awesome it is.

Good luck, have fun, remember "Losing is fun"

You can also, you know, ask the community for help on how to play...

Well i understand your point and agree, that for players which are not familiar with this game, the actual reviews do not help at all. Lots of people love the game and want to help the developers as much as they can. But anyway, before checking the reviews that wont help at all, you might check out some posts to get a feedback off the game.

For me the game is running slower and slower while my fortess is growing (now i have about 54 dwarfes), and no my system is not the problem...... hope this is something that will be fixed, because if not, then the game makes no sense to me at all. But the gameplay is basically the same as in the ASCII Version. At least what i can say until now.
If you havent played the game at all, you should check some youtube videos, even if its hard to find some with a "neutral" view.

I don't care about awards.

The consumer needs to be aware of how the reviews are being manipulated by a fan base that hasn't' even played the current version of the game.

I stand by my criticism and fully believe the public should be aware of how the reviews on this game are being manipulated and aren't to be trusted. They are not representative of the game that was released, but come from fans of the ASCII game.

I cannot accurately assess what kind of game I'm buying when this product is over shadowed by fans from the previous version.

It's more or less a port with a better UI and a tileset. I personally think it's a pretty good port, my only complaint is Adventurer Mode isn't in yet. It was a thing in the ASCII version though.

Adventure Mode wasn't the main part of DF (In fact, there's a lot of things you currently can't do in Adventurer Mode like mining and crafting) but I found it hilariously entertaining due to the brutality of the combat system, and just going around as a murderhobo beating people to death with their own severed arms was where I sunk my early playtime into.

I'm personally holding off on a review until Adventurer Mode is added.

Your trepidation makes sense in theory. And there probably are legitimate criticisms of the steam version of dwarf fortress or dwarf fortress in general that are presently being drowned in a sea of positivity. I saw a few interesting negative reviews that talked about difficulties with the camera or that keybindings has been changed in a way that messed with muscle memory.

At the same time, it's bloody dwarf fortress. The game is practically legendary. There has likely never been a game on steam with as much history or support as this one. Dwarf Fortress has always been good, or at least unique. Now it's easier to access and play, and people are rightfully going nuts about it.

Those negative reviews are still there and are still readable if you search for them. And there are many ways to research games without relying on steam percentages. I say let them have this win that was two decades in the making.

I think the new version is pretty good considering. And I didn't leave any review yet.

You can do the same thing and leave a negative review.

Hell, you can just put some stupid ass one-liner about boobs and leave a thumbs up or down, steam doesn't care.

Steam review system has always been bad. You have to sift through an ocean of garbage reviews and actually look at play time and read reviews more than just a few words.

I gave a positive review, but I noted in some of the issues as well with this version. There are some issues that need patched/modded for sure it's not perfect, but it's still worth it.

Mostly just small things with the UI and alerts.

Seriously, op is in every topic whining non stop about how they are having such a hard time being to told off they should like it or not because people love the game they have spent 15+ years playing.

You know what op, you won’t like the game, seriously, you will probably hate it, don’t bother
Eli Dec 7, 2022 @ 6:57am
This is such a non-issue.
Just go read reviews from anyone else other than Steam players if you're so concerned. Or from Steam curators.

Like what the hell is your problem? lol
