What is the best way to check overall problems with happiness?
I can only see the overall mood, but is there any way that says for example "Missing recreation" or "Hungry people" to quickly restore happiness?

You can look at people's happiness with the citizens tab, and judging them based off their smiley/not smiling faces and look at them individually, from there you can see what exactly their missing.

Select one of your unhappy dwarfs and see if they have any unfulfilled needs listed.

The Dwarf chatacter screen, click on your Dwarf, click through all the tabs. Read. Find the tab that shows all the things that annoys them. Find the tab that shows all the unmet needs for that dwarf.

So basically you can only one by one and not have a general idea

Well often one is all you need. If one dwarf is complaining about drinking without a cup or eating without a table, you can easily think "Well, I don't have enough cups/tables" and be pretty sure there are other dwarves affected as well.

The thing is, does mood affect as much as in rimworld for example? Do they perform worse under low moods or is more for roleplay values? =)

The unmet needs are kind of strange.
I had a dwarf with unmet need praying to god so and so, but I had already dedicated a temple to exactly that god already.

Lots of unmet needs about family, where I have no idea how to address them. So breakdown how to meet unmet needs would be very helpful.

Same issue here, have multiple temples and my happiness is plummeting to both unmet prayers and no time with family/friends.

Yeah, most of my dwarves have family issues being single - but they spend so much time socializing I don't know how to resolve it. I even invited some traveling females in, but they were murdered instead.

I think currently the job system keeps the dwarves busy so efficiently they rarely have time to go pray or socialize, thus making them unhappy. Miserable dwarves are annoying cause they're sloppier and if they slip into depression they do no work, or worse if they tantrum you risk running into the loyalty cascade bug.

One way to force them to meet their needs is to use burrows. I've adopted the midsummer break strategy where everyone stops working for the mid-summer month. Half the month they're all forced into a temple burrow, so they fill the prayer needs as much as they can and the other half in a tavern burrow so they'll socialize and take care of those needs.

I also just expel any tantrum prone dwarves. It sucks to lower your work force but it's more annoying to deal with tantrum spirals and loaylty cascades. So if you find dwarves whose descriptors are "is quick to anger", "is very quick to anger" or "is in a constant state of internal rage", you know those guys are more likely to tantrum and flip out when they get unhappy.

Not really on its own but if their mood is low enough for long enough they get stressed and will occasionally and potentially permanently become non functional or throw tantrums destroying stuff and potentially killing people.

It's rarely a general problem though.
I'll repost what I wrote, I asked a similar question:

If you want answers this link is excellent: https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Stress

The main idea is that some rare dwarfs will indeed be a pain to keep happy no matter what (those are the dwarfs you'll dispose of)
Some will handle stress very well, compensating your bad decisions.
And most of them just need some "basics", which are:
- generic temple (minimum) + temples for each deity (better?)
- engraved bedrooms with high quality furniture
- luxurious dining hall
- a library
- at least one mist generator somewhere
- a tavern to socialise
- high quality food
- high quality clothes
- variety in food/drink
- training in the military 1/2 months a year
- doing a work that raises a skill
- practising a craft (mass stone cutting for everyone works)
- some down time to make friends/family (this was my main problem)
- dwarfs that don't go outside for a long time may get traumatised when going outside
- dwarfs vulnerable to stress needs to avoid jobs like nobles/military

Not so basic in the end but this covers 95% of the dwarfs.
