HOW to cancel mining designation?
I'm trying to cancel mining designation with X but its not working. What am I doing wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong, it's just the tutorial preventing you from doing it.

There is a little gum icon next to the mining/woodcutting/plant gathering icons. Here you can scrub your selections

Yes. This annoyed me. But in the real game you just use the eraser. <3

Once the tutorial is done, setting up an initial fort is a lot easier.
I suppose it probably doesn't matter too much for a person's first fort, but still a minor annoyance.

It would be better if the eraser was enabled in the tutorial. I ordered mining on an aquifer by mistake and have to restart because I can't remove my order.

Yeah, I hope they fix this soon, it's incredibly frustrating. And someone playing the tutorial is the most likely to mis-click something and need to erase it...

There's other stuff that's blocked during the tutorial that really shouldn't be, like the options to inspect items and dorfs. There's a difference between trying to not overwhelm new players with options and being an active hindrance to learning.
