Regarding the music.
The page says there will be new music rather than the old nice loop that toadie includes. Will that be an optional toggle rather than going full DF classic? Is there a way to hear the new tracks?

I haven't kept up with Dwarf Fortress in a long time out of sheer laziness, but even if new tilesets are included, I don't quite know if I'd tolerate new music. At least, not yet.

Well, I'm pretty sure that you'd be able to just fish out that track from the older version and put it into the new one.

I've always loved the old music

Yeah, I'm aware. That's why I'm asking if I can turn it off. Nothing screams dwarf fortress than the thing I actually used for months to go to sleep with.

I usually just play fantasy music on youtube, there's a thread here about it too already.

The thing is, you'd most likely be able to turn off just the music in the options, like you can in the original - after doing that it's as simple as playing it on loop. It's unlikely they'd completely remove it from the game anyways, it's incredibly likely it will still be in classic (ASCII graphics) mode either way.

Can't they just bundle it with SoundSense and call it a day?

Don't worry, we won't stop you from playing the excellent old track, though we haven't decided how exactly it'll be present in the post-Steam version.

We do hope the creator(s) of SoundSense will make a Steam Workshop mod when the time comes, but we haven't chatted with them about that yet.

Maybe an option in the options menu that would allow for change between "classic" and "new" sound track? Kinda like what Cave Story+ is doing.

I know this is a bit of a necro but I woke up this morning thinking about DF and then I immediately went to "What if they don't have the guitar music that I so love" I love how quiet and soulful it gets in parts I love the sound of the fingers on the strings and how personal it is. I know the original recording's quality isn't the best but please don't lose the touch that real guitar playing gave the music.
