Black Widow help for my Whoa Permadeath run?
So on the wiki it says that the Black Widow is weak to Sour, but on her creature card, it says she's resistant to Sour. I've heard a lot of people say that while she's 50% resistant to most things, she's only 25% Resistant to stabbing damage. Should I just go Mighty Rusty Spear, or would Sour Rusty Spear be better? I want to use the Spear because it'll reduce her damage and attack speed by 10%, with the infection debuff. Moreover, you can assume for the sake of this discussion that I'm feeling confident in regards to performing perfect parries, and that I'll be going into battle with all kinds of Beefy Smoothies to heal rapidly. My only gripe with using the Sour Spear, is that the Widowlings need to be killed in order to prevent the Black Widow's heals; It says on the wiki that Widowlings are resistant to Stabbing damage, which would definitely provide a conflict if I wanted to quickly eliminate them and prevent the Black Widow from healing and buffing herself. Should I just bring a Spicy Coaltana, and go absolutely hamshow on the Widowlings whenever she spawns them?

Just make yourself a sour club of the mother demon. its a useful weapon against most bugs in the yard, so the upgrade materials wont go to waste on something youll never use again. keep smoothies at hand, and if you can, use the giddy goop and the termite armor. she isnt that bad.
Make sure you snipe the widowlings before you attack her, those will bite you and inflict a separate venom on you, that runs alongside the widow's, draining your life even faster.

I am never going to do a permadeath run, but if I were you, I'd favor defense over attack.

First of all: pick as you first black widow match either the one under the toolbox, or the one under the rock between castle Moldorc and the Hedge. Unlike the others, those two let you have two fundamental tactical options: room to build defensive structures, and most importantly freedom to GTFO and run away if needed.

Also, if you're playing on woah, do NOT go fighting the widow in the brawny boy bin unless you're twice as ready, or you will have a bad surprise.

Exploiting the infection debuff is a good idea, so go with either toenail sword or rusty spear. Pair it with a sturdy shield.

I can tell that an upgraded sour battleaxe absolutely destroys widows, but you obviously need to face at the very least one before even getting that.

My advice is to build defenses whenever possible, to keep a solid obstacle between you and the widow while you shoot your strongest arrows at her from a safe distance.

I think you should, the buff she gain from eating widowling is huge.

I suggest using the firefly trinket to slow her harder. As the buffed speed make it impossible to retaliate while her buff last.

Thanks for letting me know, I'll try to get Giddy Goop with Rascal Rogue next episode, and I'll definitely use the Dust Cloud effect of Termite Armor too. Those are both great ideas; Those two plus the Rusty Spear will really hinder her attack speed in conjunction with one another

Giddy goop + blademaster + Toenail sword (sour in widow case) + termite armor makes her extremely slow and extremely weak.
Easiest way to kill them is to locate a spot nearby they cant access and sit there and just peck them down with either arrows or a fire staff. !00% safe each time if you can find the locations, each black widow spawn has an area like that nearby you just have to find them, which i suggest doing on a non-permadeath save ahead of time to practice lol.

From my experience (500+ kills cuz I farmed them for raw science), brute force is your friend. Roly Poly armor, potion spam, big ass axe, and ignore the spiderlings. She's going to get one eventually, might as well let her have em. Also sour battleaxe is the best because you can get a big ass speed buff when using it. From my testing, it outperformed all other weapons.

Also learning to perfect block her makes you a God with all spiders. Even the Infected Wontdropherdamncarduntilthe90thkill Broodmother isn't faster than widows.
Honestly the only thing you need to worry about, is the possibility of the Black Widow consuming one of her babies. If she does that then the whole fight changes drastically for ten seconds. But as long as she never eats a baby, or as long as you turtle up for ten seconds after she does, it's not so bad

What’s funny is the way this is worded makes it sound like this is a fairly rare occurrence or they don’t use this attack often.

Yet my time in Whoa tells me they usually start the dang fight by web shooting and summoning a baby to immediately kill and buff themselves and they don’t really go more than 3 or 4 attacks unbuffed before summoning another baby. They are buffed about 1/3 to 1/2 the fight probably.

Omg I didn't know that >_> I didn't know it'd be so consistent, I thought that you'd kill the initial widowlings and more would rarely spawn after that. Now I'm terrified of our rematch!

Yeah they are probably the scariest enemy in game now for non boss enemies. I can usually take them now that I’ve practiced a lot (I use sour battleaxe) but every now and then they can grab a buff at the wrong time and can still turn the tables and finish you off before you even realize it.

It sucks but honestly the best way to deal with buffed widow is to hide behind terrain or sit where they can’t reach you till it wears off. If you can’t do that…you better be ready to heal through and somehow deal with the unblockable sped up 5 hit combo. Honestly, I’d never recommend a hardcore or permadeath run in this game just for them alone. Not on Whoa difficulty at least.

Sour battleaxe will chop off widow's healthbar faster, but in order to contrast her speed buff, termite armor + toenail scimitar are your friends. They work well against IBM as well.

Ahhh I got damn far though, I'm gonna use that save file of my failed permadeath run to practice against the widow soon, until I've got it down. If I can master Black Widows, then the rest of the game on Permadeath Whoa might be viable!

I played whoa mode for the first time, and I now see I've given you terrible advice. Or, well, if you are a much better player than me then not, but the black widow ANNIHILATED me in whoa mode. I had a level 7 sour club of the mother demon and level 7 armor of the mother demon. She destroyed me in seconds. Then I went to fight shmector, and ruined him with ease with the same setup. Schmector is now easier than black widows in the game, I guess.
I did manage to take em out with the sour battle axe level 7 though. And chopper mutation tier 3. So, yeah, maybe I should modify my advice to first take on schmector and acquire the sour battle axe, and tier 9 armor for sure. Alongside some beefy smoothies.
