Are they eventually going to remove the requirement to have xbox live for multiplayer?
Also they should really advertise that you have to pay an addition 15$ a month to get multiplayer. What a scam. I dont even own an xbox

EDIT: The first window that popped up when i started up the game for the first time was "you need xbox LIVE to play multiplayer" which 15$+ a month

I can understand you never touched Windows 10 and you didn't know about the retro compatibility with windows 10 and xbox one that's been here for years, so let me explain. Console players pay to play in that platform, Pc players can play the same exact games, with their xbox console friends, but with the difference that we don't have to pay a single cent. It's only a matter of allowing xbox to use your microsoft account to track achievements and stuff.
If you enter in "Xbox console companion", a Windows 10 app, you'll have every achievement that you got and even a store where you can buy PC games(Windows 10 version of games). I've been playing State of Decay 2, or Minecraft windows 10 edition with friends through that xbox app since 2018 and I never paid a single cent.

I was under the impression that you only needed a Microsoft account to play multiplayer, not additional money on top of that. Is that not the case?

oh don't forget you can't play with random xbox people you need to play with the xbox friends list players only. That's just for pc.
I dont pay for xbox live na dplay it perfectly fine
Peepz, you need a Microsoft account IF you want to play it online, the same account you log in ur hotmail/outlook.
XBox app is free and came with windows after all so i don't know why people say that it costs money.

If you want to play it offline, just don't sign in and play as "OfflineUser"

The 15 dollars a month on the xbox app is only the pass, not a game nor your account.
Then you can play games for 15 dollars a month, but you dont bought the game.
Go look it up.

If you want to play with random people, just use the xbox app and search for this game
You can also place a post on the xbox app so others know you want to play (most on there are not serious, but it's there) or place a post here on steam (which works a bit better)

If you are friends in steam, the guest only have to go to your profile and click Join Game (that is IF the host has started the game.)

IF all works good then ur good. Sometimes it's a bit buggy still. Remember, the co-op is kinda broken, hope they fix that sooner then the next update.

what do you mean? as long as you own the game you don't have to pay anything to play online, that was never a thing in PC do you guys live in a bubble or what? Xbox is publishing games in steam like a few month ago and you only need a microsoft account (that you already have if you own Windows 10) to play online

That was that absolute worst thing, booting up Win 8 or 10 and being greeted with what looks like a console UI. Worst thing MS ever did after completely lying to the PC gaming community about the Xbox features. Not one feature they said would be included was....for PC gamers. No mouse/kb support, no USB ports, no compatibility with anything they said it would be compatible with. Bill Gates is a crook IMO.

It's not Bill Gates that does this, it's the new CEO that did adding all the apps to windows.

Yeah, I can't stand Windows 10. Still happily on Windows 7 for my desktop at least. I'm hoping that when we get the successor to Windows 10 (whatever the heck that will be) that it will be slightly more tolerable.

Well I used to hate Windows 8 back in the day (I still do) 'cause it came pre-installed in my laptop and it was ugly af. Windows 10 was free so I tried it and now I can't stand my old trusty favorite Windows 7 or XP.

I never was in the "O.s world" to know if they lied or something but I'm sure those problems are not here anymore. Also updating gave me a lot of possibilities speaking of compatibilities with my new PC, and some apps. E.g. Spotify is "free" in the windows 10 version, you can record you gameplay easily if you're a begginer, but the best thing is that you can play with you Xbox friends even if you don't have an xbox without paying a single cent, and that's awesome. Whatever I know you guys have an opinion and I'm not trying to convince you at all because a lot of these features/counterparts are in Windows 7, but you should give this last Windows 10 a try, as long as your system specs meets the requirements for the O.s.

Also I was thinking about a Windows 11 or something like that and I'm not sure if we're gonna see that in the next few years. I mean the new xbox will have a lifespan of 7 years like all the previous consoles had and I don't think they will want to mess with the operative system that lets players play together

It's basically 'formerly known as GFWL' game service from Microsoft.
And it's completely free, no worries about that.
