True Freeplay? (as a mode)

Some sort of mode with no rewards but infinite retries would be incredibly helpful for a number of reasons, namely testing strategies and whatnot (as well as building up a paragon army for fun and w/o shilling monkey money for every death)
Basically what people usually use challenge editor for, but as a mode
Probably unlocked in the same way as sandbox

I'd imagine the only thing you could get from this is the ability to push your "max rounds survived" counter further, because you did still survive to that point

Yes, sort of. The only drawback is that round 300 is the limit in it without mods.

this is arguably the polar opposite of a challenge.

the challenge of "how far can you get if you have infinite retries"?

Challenge editor gets capped at round 300, which adds a set "end goal" in a challenge that would have to be theoretically endless
of course, round 999 is in fact the true "final" round, but it's effectively impossible to get that far.
