Crafting: best ammo/grenade combination
Hi,

what is in your opinion the best ammo/grenade type when you mix powders/explosives?
I don't know if use the high quality powder for create shotgun shells or MAG bullets, and which grenade type is the best for knock down the monsters?

I turned all of my high grade gunpowder into MAG ammo. The game gives you more than enough grenade rounds from various sources, but doesn't drop too much MAG ammo, which I would say is better for damage purposes. The other gunpowder I just turned into handgun ammo. Shotgun gets enough ammo to last, if you're being careful and using it to remove threats in your way and not hunting everything, I think.

If I had to make GL ammo it would probably be flame rounds though. Acid is meant to be really good against Nemesis second form though, I've just hardly used them to really test them out. I know Acid works good on zombies too, but that's a bit of a waste.

Remember you can dodge between Grenade Launcher shots to increase the rate of fire too, as it skips the animation where Jill cycles the cylinder...but also remember Nemesis in his first form is very prone to dodging the Grenade Launcher, way more than his original version!

I'd say shotgun ammo for most of the game, cause the shotgun is genuinely easier to use if you're in a pinch and you get more of it per mix. Also, depending on the difficulty you may not get the magnum till late game, at which point you can mix up some mag ammo for boss fights if you want.

Definitely going to have to go with flame rounds for the grenade launcher. They just seem better than everything else.

True, even nemesis 2nd form is weak to flame rounds. Too bad acid rounds are underwhelming, their only use are against hunters.

I'd say to keep making shotgun ammo until you have like 20-30 shells spare at which point that should last you to the end of the game with the shells you find on the way.

For grenades I think make 1 or 2 acid rounds for the Betas and then use the rest for fire / explosive. There aren't many betas in the game. Someone mentioned Acid is good vs Nemesis but I haven't tried it myself yet since I was still using RE2 logic where fire was OP on bosses.

Here is my recommendation after going through everything up to Inferno without shop items:

Assisted to Hardcore

All high grade gunpowder should be made into shotgun shells.

All explosives should be focused on making flame rounds with the exception of NEST 2 where you make some acid rounds to fight the Hunters

Reason is that I almost never return to the Hospital as Jill for the Magnum, its a waste of time. The only uses of the magnum are only against Pale Heads and Final Nemesis. Stage 2 Nemesis (both clock tower and acid pool) is best fought with flame rounds keeping him on fire while dishing DPS with the shotgun since that is the fastest and most economical way. Pale Heads can be easily killed with a combination of the excess explosive/ mine rounds you get from boss arenas and the shotgun. Final Nemesis is easy enough with the burst handgun.

Nightmare to Inferno

All high grade gunpowder should be made into magnum ammo

Explosives should still be made into flame rounds except for some acid rounds for Hunters.

You get your magnum very early in Nightmare and Inferno and there are many areas that are very difficult without the magnum to get rid of certain enemies quickly. There is almost no way to take out all threats properly in Nightmare and Inferno, therefore requiring you to execute a lot of perfect dodges to get around. Use the magnum to take out enemies in areas that you need to pass a few times or in areas that are too hard to get by. Use the magnum against pale heads. The boss fights should still be done the same way as Hardcore and below although he take a bit more. I also do not return to hospital as Jill on Inferno because the risk to reward is not worth it.

I'm not sure why everyone keeps saying that acid or flame rounds are the best for hunters, one grenade kills them on standard
I started on Hardcore and made some Shotgun rounds to have a decent stock but then I started saving high-grade gunpowder and exclusively mixed MAG ammo to have enough for the Pale Heads and the last boss. It's not essential but handy.

As for grenade rounds, all can be pretty useful. Explosive rounds work on just about everything, Flame rounds are best for Hunter Gammas but also very useful on bosses and they have damage buildup when the target is on fire (wait till the flames go out, do dmg with another weapon, then fire another one or alternate between flame and explosive rounds to maximise dmg). Acid rounds I only used once in NEST 2.0.
