How not to use your Brad Vickers.
--First, how you use your Brad Vickers RIGHT:

OG RE1:

Introduce him as a coward in the first game, abandoning his teammates to die a gruesome death at the hands of the most nightmarish creatures.

OG RE2:

Have his zombie at the R.P.D. as a neat secret to find. Leaving you with the mystery of how he dies (Good setup).

OG RE3:

Since it happens before RE2, show him scared to dead, talking nonsensically about a still unknown threat, just to having him cowardly running away again, leaving you nervous about what is to come.

Some time later, just when you think you arrived somewhere safe, have him entering the R.P.D. in a terrified rush, just to be stoped by a dark tall figure that gives him a glorious gruesome death. Explaining how he dies (Great Payoff). Introducing Nemesis, a real threat that just took the life of your commrade in front of your eyes.

--Now, How to use your Brad Vickers WRONG:

Rmk RE1:

Introduce him as a coward in the first game, abandoning his teammates to die a gruesome death at the hands of the most nightmarish creatures.

Rmk RE2:

Have a poster of him in the place his zombie used to be, just because LOL, remember? Brad used to appear here in the OG, spoon of nostalgia.

Rmk RE3:

Have a note from Brad in your appartment talking about "S.T.A.R.S. forever" and stuff, not even giving an apoligy for how he cowardly abandoned his teammates to die at the Arkhlay mountains.

Since Nemesis, the "biggest threat" has been already introduced, not killing anything or giving you any real reason to why he's to be feared. What better than having the team coward, Brad Vickers, calmly and casually talking about "that thing that has a hard on the S.T.A.R.S. members". Then casually walking through the chaos of Raccon city.

Then, because Brad is not a coward, he's a hero! He sacrifices himself to save Jill. Staying behind being devoured by a dozen of zombies. S.T.A.R.S. forever!

Lastly have him magically appearing at the R.P.D. so he can bit Marvin, so people can say "Oh! It was Brad all the time", not before zombie Brad repeating "Sorry". But ok, if "Itchy Tasty" zombie could write a letter, I don't see why zombie Brad can't talk.

Now here you have it! How not to use your Brad Vickers. I hope it's useful for the next remakes that might come out in 20 years!

I remember when that patch for RE2 came out with that Jill's Diary, always thought they could add a zombified Brad at the RPD, they even put a cool Nemesis gag in the RPD Demo, just for nothing....

I looked for Brad right after that like crazy in RE2. A bit of a wasted oportunity, specially since they probably already had Brad's zombie ready for RE3 at that point.

Yeah and the Nemesis Stars roar in the distance around the RE2 RPD demo, that was a hype for nothing.

I don't entirely mind him not appearing in RE2 Remake (especially considering Carlos's scenario in RE3 Remake) but I do mind A LOT his cliché, watered-down death. It's almost like the Remake is the old game and the original is the new, improved one.

What a pile of vomit this "remake" is

Yeah, that scene is probably the most important icon removed from the OG, and sadly, replaced with nothing worth remembering.

Yeah i'm not really a fan at all of how they redid Brad in this. His death was probably one of the most memorable moments of the original trilogy. And was an excellent introduction to Nemesis. Here they just have Nemesis play Kool-Aid Man in an effort to surprise you by introducing him sooner than you expected. Then have Brad acting entirely out of character like he isn't even that worried about anything except Jill. Kind of disappointing especially since the reworked death of Ben in REmake 2 was even scarier than his original one.

Ben's death was glorious! I expected something similar for chief Irons, but no, just an Alien ripoff for the really hateful character

You mean the note that you read roughly 3 months later? When it is entirely possible that he has made amends with the rest of the survivors in the mean time. Even if he hasn't why would this be his one opportunity to apologise 3 months later?

So according to you it's impossible for him to want to make up for his behaviour? And him literally saying that he is doing it to make up for his past mistakes doesn't make sense?

That would be cool. But that's you assuming, filling the gaps and trying to make sense yourself of something that really doesn't make any. Storytelling wise, there's nothing that ever points to that, nor a note, a voice message or a flashback.

Of course characters can change and grow, but that growth must be earned.

He literally says don't mess up like I did and pushes Jill away saying Go. Its not exactly subtle.

In the note thing I was just saying there is no reason for him to apologise because anything could have happened in the three months.

"Don't mess up like I did", at least for me, meant "don't let them bite you", since he got bitten just seconds ago. Otherwise, there's no reason for Jill to mess like he did, since she has never acted cowardly in the past when her teammates are at risk, so assuming he was telling her "don't be a coward like I was" makes even less sense.

About the note, once again, that's just assuming something happened in those months, which the game never lets you know.

I understand the "don't mess up like I did" basically saying "don't let your guard down and let them bite you like it has just happened to me".
