For busy intersections, I ended up converting it to jug handles with straight only and bypass one lane highways to allow for right on red. You have to convert the highway to a one way alley or road to have it yield instead of primary traffic. It's a bit weird lol. Unfortunately alleys allow parking, which makes it weird on a bypass or JH, and you can't apply wide sidewalks to it.
The lane connector editor enables removal of left-turns and U-turns.
