Over 11 consecutive months of having less players than predecessor
Every day I'm checking steam to see if there's been THE update that'll fix most of this game's problems: full Asset Manager release. Nothing so far, even though they've been promising for a year now.
Today I've decided to check how are things with Cities: Skylines as compared to Cities: Skylines 2.
There's 2 times more players in the first one than the other one. And soon we will have one round year of this situation, without any signs of this changing.

But hey, at least I can download a... mod to make my city look a bit german or french. Maybe the homelessness clumps bug is actually intended for the sake of added realism? He-he.

Another "statistician" who doesn't take all data into account. But hey, who cares about game pass, MS store and GFN versions, right? And never mind about 8x difference on steam version ownership.

But while you are at it, have a look at C:S1 player count history from the days prior to C:S2 launch. Compare that number to ownership during each period and see how badly it actually did according to your metrics.
Stats?
There are four legitmate ways to play this game from which we can get any kind of stats... Steam, GamePass, GFN, and MS Store.

STEAM = 133,000,000 ACTIVE MONTHLY USERS
GamePass = 33,000,000 TOTAL SUBSCRIBERS
GFN = 20,000,000 TOTAL SUBSCRIBERS
MS Store is GamePass. They share numbers. Deny it. MS will only say, "We have over a billion users!" but not of what services or products.
Unless there is some mystical reason to suspect there is a major difference between the player bases playing this very specific genre, we can extrapolate the percentage of subscribers who might play Cities:Skylines 2 on the other platforms with any number of reported players on Steam... simple math from grade school.
But first, let's take note that GFN and GamePass both only supply TOTAL SUBSCRIBERS. How many of you have a subscription somewhere that you haven't used and will never use again? STEAM tells you how many ACTIVE MONTLY USERS instead. Very different, don't you agree? But we can't get current monthly active users from either GFN or GamePass. Interesting.

So...
12,121 C:S2 players ONE DAY (yesterday) out of 133,000,000 active users THIS MONTH on Steam
Pretty pathetic already. Less than .001%
That would be about 3,000 POSSIBLE MAX players out of Game Pass's 33,000,000 TOTAL SUBSCRIBERS since they started up. If every single subscriber is still active (and alive).
About 2,000 POSSIBLE MAX players out of some 20,000,000 TOTAL SUBSCRIBERS since they started up GFN. If every single subscriber is still active (and alive).
MS Store??? Like I say, they are included in GamePass players for sure.

There is NO BETTER sample of game players than STEAM. It has the largest player base by far, and has the most open and usable statistics. Want to talk sample sizes and generated probabilities? Or data extrapolation? Comparative data analysis? Why? It's all going to point right back at the biggest database - STEAM, and it's going to match statistically almost to a perfect tee because it alone is FOUR TIMES as large as the next largest sample, and it is still something like twice as large as the entire rest of the countable game players of this limited-released game.

It's been over a year and it's still not available on anything other than WIndows PCs and some penguin boxes. The sales when and IF it hits consoles is going to be... interesting.

Pretty much, who cares about them. They are a tiny percentage of the overall PC market. Vast majority of people use steam, and you're on a steam forum. Its still a very valid sample size and likely the corrolation between CS1/CS2 users will not differ from platform to platform.

So TC is totally valid and for whatever reason you're still trying to defend the horrendous decision making on the side of PDX and CO.

Said it better than me.

Right, he skipped the CS1 console players. But we don't have numbers, so...
