[bug?] Farms not earning money
I just checked on my farms after leaving them alone for a time and they have earnt 0 money from the start of the game and are in massive debt. I don't tax them at all and leave it at 2%.

Cotton farm has performed fine, but grain and livestock farms have earnt nothing since the start of the playthrough... Is this bugged or am I missing something?

Are you creating your farms on fertile land? It's yellow on the map when you look at resources on the left hand menu. If you aren't, the only thing that you can farm is chickens, that apparently don't need fertile land to prosper. Chickens and stone are the only two resources that can be harvested without having to worry about the land and its resources.

Yes, but OP's cotton farm is making money, while their livestock farm is not. So even if the grain farm isn't on fertile land, there's more going on here.

@Amroth: How do your farms get their products out to industry? How far do they have to travel, etc? And, how does your industry get their products to commercial, and/or off the map?

Touche.

I think therein lies at least part of the problem. I've monitored it, and NONE of the specialized industry send any vehicles out anywhere. The roads are filled with only the private vehicles, and the occasional "delivery van" delivering non-raw materials.

I have seen a total of 3 semi trucks delivering things in my 16k population playthrough. One was delivering mail to the post office, the other 2 were importing grains into a warehouse.

Absolutely no other cargo traffic. (This is in Vanilla)

As I understand it, if they won't make a profit, they won't sell; and trip costs matter.

So has the player told us whether the cotton is on fertile land or not?

Guys, I understand how the game works. Grain, Cotton & Vegetable on fertile land, livestock not. That is NOT the issue.

I am also having this problem. I have yet to have one person show me a wealth tab screenshot in the past 2 months with a positive value. I am seeing the same behavior you are. I build the correct industry in the correct zone and the resource is never moved by truck anywhere.

I hate to start a new build but i am thinking the distance has to be extremely short to the Industrial shop that refines it?

Otherwise it is a bug.
